Punch it Out!

Using punches on Designer Series Paper is yet another fun and effective way to create with it. Many of the Stampin’ Up! papers have images that can can be punched out with it’s coordinating punch. On the Whale of a Time Designer Series Paper the whale can be easily punched out with the coordinating Whale Punch for a quick focal image.

I added some stamping and a scalloped border for a quick yet fun card. This scalloped border was made a while ago and I found it in my stash but I couldn’t remember which die I had used. I looked for about 10 minutes in my dies and the catalogue and could not work out which one it was. Then I realized that it was actually a piece of DSP that I had fussy cut a wave from and this was the leftover piece. So, I tricked myself to think it was a die cut!

For my next card I chose the Plaid Tidings DSP for my base. The vases were simply punched from the In Good Taste DSP. I added some Artistry Blooms DSP flowers combined with Poinsettia Place DSP leaves.

A pop of colour with the Melon Mambo scalloped circle makes this a sweet card to send anyone ‘just because’.

Fun Ways with Designer Series Paper – Part 4

Designer Series Paper can come in a variety of colours, designs and patterns and sometimes it has beautiful graduated shades or scenes on them. You can add even more interest to your DSP by stamping on it. Day 4 of my Fun Ways with Designer Series Paper brings you the simplicity of stamping to add that little bit extra to make your paper look different.

Stamp it

Woodgrain paper is always a favourite of mine as it coordinates so well with a variety of projects. On this card, I used the wood textured paper from the Poinsettia Place Designer Series Paper to create a Christmas card in non-traditional colours.

I used the holly from the Joyful Holly stamp set to stamp a border in Old Olive and added some stars in Terracotta Tile. I love how this adds that special touch to the DSP.

The poinsettia petals were die cut from Shimmery White cardstock and then watercoloured with Terracotta Tile and Cajun Craze ink refills. I love watercolouring as it’s just such an easy way to create a blend of colours and it makes you look like an artist when all you have actually done is swished some colours together.

Once the petals are dry, use a bone folder to curl those petals up for a realistic flower.

I’ve gone non-traditional again for this card, throwing in some Magenta Madness into the mix of Autumn colours. The speckled sheet from the Gilded Autumn Designer Series Paper has got enough blank space to stamp over without looking busy. I think the speckled look just adds to the texture of the frame in the centre.

Combined with some coordinating ribbon and punched out autumn leaves, this card with it’s delicate lace frame shows another way to stamp your Designer Series Paper and get more use out of it.

There is just over a week for you to get in on the amazing Designer Series Paper sale. With 15 different designs on offer at 15% off you will want to grab yourself a bargain and stock up on these beautiful papers.

Fun Ways with Designer Series Paper – Part 3

I hope you are enjoying this series in which I am showing you several Fun Ways with Designer Series Paper. We’ve covered Common Cuts and Fussy cutting. Today, we are sponging it. This is another great technique to add colour and alter your DSP.

Sponge it

Sponging can be done using a sponge dauber or sponges. Each of these tools will give you a different effect when you are sponging over larger areas. Personally, for smaller areas and edging, I prefer the sponge daubers. These nifty little tools are like a thimble with a sponge on one side and open on the other so you can pop it on your finger. This makes it handy to work around your projects.

This card uses sponging in it’s classic form for creating a distressed finish giving this card a vintage feel. The Toile Tidings DSP images just lend itself to creating vintage cards. They are so pretty that I didn’t want to cover any of it so I selected a lovely sentiment and kept the rest of the card clean so the beauty of this paper could be seen. Until the end of October you can get this paper at 15% off.

This is a quick and easy card to make using the Feels Like Frost Specialy DSP which has photographic images on one side and silver foil on the other. I used the silver foil side and sponged over with Coastal Cabana. The silver resisted the ink while only the white leaves picked up the colour. This is a really fun way to alter the colour of paper.

Although this DSP is perfect for Christmas cards, you can see that it can be used for other occasions with this beautiful silver foil.
