The Emboss Resist Technique is such a fun technique and a great challenge for Day 14 of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge . Emboss Resist is a technique of stamping an image with Versamark and heat embossing it. Then when you stamp or add ink over it, the embossing ‘resists’ the ink and is visible while the background takes on the ink colour.

I chose the Peaceful Boughs and Christmas Gleaming stamp set to work with and then selected my colour palette.

The boughs were heat embossed in White Embossing Powder. Then I used a sponge brayer to add Bumble Bee, Terracotta Tile and Melon Mambo over the entire piece of Whisper White cardstock. I didn’t worry about the ink going over the embossing as it resists the colour and a bit of tissue would wipe that clean.

Once I had applied and blended all 3 colours, I wiped the excess off using a tissue. I found that the darker colours still didn’t make my embossing as white as I wanted. Using a cotton bud, I dabbed some Stampin’ Mist on it and set about rubbing the colour off the embossing. This brought up the white lots more and made it brighter.

The bauble was heat embossed in white and then I coloured it with Stampin’ Blends. I love how the embossing shines through.

I stamped the sentiment in Tuxedo Black ink using the Stamparatus. This let me stamp it a couple of times so the sentiment was nice and clear. Then I die cut the word Joy from Whisper White cardstock and offset it giving it a shadow effect.
