Wintry Leaves of Holly Card Day 2 – 30 Day Christmas Cardmaking Challenge

We’re In the Snow for Day 2 of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge. I’ve skirted around the theme with products having the word ‘snow’ in it’s name!

If you haven’t got some of the Snowflake Specialty Vellum you must get yourself some! It is beautiful. I love that you get the White Vellum Sheets, which is what I’ve used on my card today, and you get Iridescent Foil Sheets which pick up the colours around it.

I used the Leaves of Holly bundle, stamping the leaves in Crumb Cake to create a wintry look. Then I added some die cut twigs from the Harvest Dies to give the effect of branches that have shed their leaves.

On top of the leaves I added some Snowfall Accents Puff Paint. This is a liquid which you apply which is then heat embossed to give the puffy effect of snow.

‘Tis the Season Day 1 – 30 Day Christmas Card Making Challenge

I’m looking forward to November with lots of Stampin’ Up! events, new catalogue sneak peeks and Christmas preparations. Lots of cardmaking is definitely on my list of things to do as I have several markets to attend and lots to get ready to giveaway to friends and family. So what a better way to get ready than to take part in Martin’s Mahyem #30dayChristmasCardmakingChallenge. Martin Stone is a member of the Stampin’ Up! Artisan Design Team. I’m so looking forward to this fun challenge.

For Day 1 it’s ‘something red’ and I’ve used the Sweetest Christmas Designer Series Paper to create the backdrop for my card.

For an extra layer of red, I added some ink blending through the Artistic Mix Decorative Masks.

The pinecones are from the Christmas Season stamp set which a carryover from last year and don’t they make a great feature on this card? Some Mint Macaron and Blushing Bride break up the red and create a pretty colour palette. The oval dies are from the brand new Fitting Florets Collection which is available from today. The dies are a must have just for these ovals alone.

All I Want for Christmas

I have made it to Day 30 of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge and it’s an all encompassing theme of All I Want for Christmas. I apologize in advance if you now have Mariah Carey singing in your head all day long! You have 2 more months of that to go!! I quite like that song but I digress. Back to the fun stuff of cardmaking.

What would I like to receive as a Christmas card? I love all types. I love Christmas cards that tell the story of Jesus’ birth by the nativity scene or a Bible verse, I love vintage scenes with ice skaters amidst the twinkling Christmas lights, I love a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, I love cute and cuddly deer, I love wreaths, foliage and poinsettia. You’re probably getting the idea … I have a wide range of Christmas cards that I love.

My earliest memories of Christmas cards that really took me into a fairytale world were back when I was in Sri Lanka and our friends in England used to send us such beautiful Christmas cards which nearly always had a scene with snow and there was always glitter to make the season just that more sparkly. So today, my card draws on a little bit of all my favourite memories.

I chose the Snowflake Splendor Designer Series Paper for my base and tag combining it with other elements from the Snowflake Splendor Suite Collection to create this card. I started off with the tag and then worked out all the other bits and pieces around it.

By tearing a piece of Whisper White cardstock and DSP I was able to add a rustic touch to this card which otherwise had clean lines. I embossed the torn piece of cardstock with the Winter Snow Embossing Folder, sponging it with Misty Moonlight ink.

The Balmy Blue Glimmer Paper is so pretty and die cut with the foliage die it adds just the right amount of Christmas sparkle. I added some extra silver leaves die cut from the beautiful Feels Like Frost Designer Series Paper. This DSP was brought out in our last Christmas catalogue and was so popular that it has been brought back this time. With photographic images of snow and ice on one side and silver foil on the other, this is a luxurious paper suitable even for weddings and other occasions.

PLEATED STRIP

  • Cut a strip of paper 2cm wide (or whatever width you prefer)
  • Use Paper Trimmer to score at 2cm, 3cm, 5cm, 6cm (so your first gap is at 2cm and the second gap is 1cm from there, then 2cm and so on)
  • Valley fold and Mountain fold your score lines to form a pleat
  • Burnish well using a Bone Folder
  • Add Tear n’ Tape to the back to hold together as this makes it easier to work with

During October you can get the Snowflake Splendor Designer Series Paper for $17 giving you 12 sheets of 12″x12″ double-sided papers. You can view all the papers on sale by clicking the image below.

I have come to the end of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge and I hope you have enjoyed my creations. You can search for the challenge in the Search Bar to find all my cards I created for this challenge. My thanks goes to Martin Stone at Martin’s Mayhem for the opportunity to participate in this. It has been super fun and definitely got me out of my comfort zone at times. You will want to check out Martin’s cards for this challenge as they are awesome.

A Chalkboard Christmas

Many of us have grown up with chalkboards during our schooling and the screeching sound of chalk against the chalkboard is one we’d rather forget! Today’s #30DayChristmasCardmakingChallenge is a Chalkboard Christmas. Although, there are alternate ways to interpret this, I went with the traditional black chalkboard.

Heat embossing the sentiment from Wrapped in Christmas helped it to stand out against the black whilst still creating the chalkboard effect.

I used the Whisper White ink pad to add some chalk dust on my Chalkboard.

I also used this ink to go over the embossing on my card base which added to the chalk feel of the card.

The reindeer was heat embossed in White on Crumb Cake cardstock. I then coloured it in completely with the Whisper White Watercolour pencil. Then I went over parts of the image with Early Espresso and a touch of Daffodil Delight. I added a panel of plaid paper from Heartwarming Hugs Designer Series Paper behind my layered chalkboard. I love the Christmas feel it gives.

The sprig of leaves was stamped in Tuxedo Black on Whisper White cardstock which I coloured in Old Olive, Basic Gray and Whisper White Watercolour pencils. Then I used the Basic Black pencil to fill in all the white space to resemble the chalkboard look. Finally, I added Whisper White ink with a sponge dauber to soften the edges which coordinated with my chalkboard sentiment.

Simple Sketch with Cherish the Season Stamp Set

Day 28 of the #30DayChristmasCardmakingChallenge is a colour challenge with Real Red, Smoky Slate and Basic Gray. I love using the neutral shades in the Stampin’ Up! colour range. They provide a great base for cards and can help to soften strong colours.

I first chose the ‘Tis the Season Designer Series Paper for the Real Red component to match my Basic Gray card base. I die cut this with the Layering Squares die set which has coordinating sizes that work with the Stitched Shapes Dies. This card sketch is nice and simple and would be a great card to making multiples of.

I stamped some pine leaves in Smoky Slate and layered this on Real Red cardstock to create a contrast against the crisp White background. A die cut Silver ornament keeps this card simple yet elegant. For some added texture, I layered the sentiment on Red Velvet Paper.
