The Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper is sooo much fun. It just makes you feel like a child again with the cute and colourful houses. I chose it for this card sketch challenge in Martin’s Mayhem #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge I think this year I’m going to be well ahead of my cardmaking for Christmas … I hope!
Card sketches are a lot of fun to work with and I did switch this around a bit, putting the sentiment to the left. Sketches are there to give you a starting point and you can even flip them to give you a totally different look.
I watercoloured a label from Hippo & Friends dies in Balmy Blue using a water painter. Then I stamped the stars in Balmy Blue while the cardstock was still a bit damp so it gave it a less defined edge.
I fussy cut several houses from the DSP sheets. The trees from the Coming Home stamp set were stamped in Gray Granite, then using the plaid tree from Perfectly Plaid stamp set I stamped over the image to create the pattern.
This whole scene just has the look of a cute, fairytale like, Christmas village. I’m sure you have seen me use the Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper several times. With it’s fun colours and images, I have really enjoyed creating both Christmas and non-Christmas projects with it.

Always up for a challenge and ready to get some serious Christmas card making done this month, I’m taking part in Martin Stone’s 30 Day Christmas Card Making Challenge.
The theme for Day 1 is Winter Winds. As soon as I saw this I felt a cold, winter chill and a scene popped up in my mind which I wanted to recreate. A chilly, winter’s night with the snow falling to the ground and the wind roaring around sounds cold and cozy all at the same time.
I created a swirling background to depict the wind by swiping my Smoky Slate ink pad across the Whisper White cardstock in a downward swiping motion. This was repeated in Misty Moonlight and a little bit of Early Espresso. Then I used the Kraft ink refill and watered it down with my fine tip Water Painter. I flicked the brush against the lid of the Water Painter to splatter the white ink over my prepared layer. I did the same with the Frost White Shimmer Paint. All these colours and textures created a really blustery, winter’s night.
The die cut trees have been brushed with Wink of Stella and although it’s not easy to pick this up on the photo, it adds a very subtle shimmer.
I just had to add this cute little house from the Coming Home bundle to complete my scene, making it warm and inviting amidst the cold and wild weather going on outside.

I’ve been having some fun with the Coming Home Bundle – can you tell? These houses are so much fun and you can just build a village with them.
My card features the Woodland Embossing Folder on a die cut from the Stitched Rectangles Dies. Laying the die cut this way creates an interest to the background of the card. The die cut tree just fits in with the embossing.
Colouring the house is so easy with Stampin’ Blends and you can have a whole street of colour. I chose the sentiment from the Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set as it suited the house theme.
This suite offers fun options for your Christmas projects and would make a great addition to your Christmas craft selection. To order, click on any of the products images below or give me a call on Ph: 0404 255 001.
