Monochromatic Crushed Curry – Ink Smooshing Technique

Today’s Crafty Collaborations Monochromatic Insta Hop features Crushed Curry. It’s only lately that I have grown to love this colour. I used to find it too bright but now I’m loving the vibrancy of this colour and it’s beautiful shade of yellow.

Crafty Collaborations, Monnochromatic Insta Hop, Crushed Curry

This card started with a die cut circle from Fluid 100 Cardstock. On this, I I ink smooshed the background.

HOW TO CREATE AN INK SMOOSHED BACKGROUND

  • Pat your ink pad on a piece of acetate (I use the backing for the photopolymer stamps)
  • Spritz the ink with water
  • Curve the acetate and work the centre on the Fluid 100 Cardstock
  • Ink, spritz and repeat the process, moving the acetate around
  • Leaving it to dry between applications will create dark puddles and add texture

For added texture, I ink smooshed Black Memento ink on the right hand side. Once dry, I stamped the lined image and splattered some dots with the Dark Black Stampin’ Blend Combo.

On top of all this I also added some splatters using White Kraft ink with a Water Painter which added some lovely contrast against the Crushed Curry.

The flowers were watcercoloured in Crushed Curry ink refill and some shading was added on the leaves in Smoky Slate. A Paper Butterfly Accent embellished with a Sparkle Gem adds a pretty finishing touch to this card.

I hope you have enjoyed my creation today and give ink smooshing a try for some inky, messy, fun. If you live in Australia you can shop with me in my Online Store. A product list is below to help you create your Shopping List. If you have any questions, please get in touch with me.

AWOW Blog Hop – Sketch with Latte Love Bundle

Awow Blog Hop, Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop Header

Welcome to the Around the World on Wednesday blog hop where we have a sketch challenge for May. This is my favourite type of challenge and I’ve given the Latte Love bundle a bit of a twist with some new products.

If you are new to our blog hop, we are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from different parts of the world and on the 2nd Wednesday of each month we share inspiration with you using our beautiful products centred around a particular theme.

When I selected the Latte Love bundle as the product I wanted to use with this sketch, I didn’t anticipate going in the direction which my project took me. As I started creating, I wanted to create a different look with this mug to those I had previously made. I decided to replicate a beautiful Bone China style mug with watercoloured flowers – similar to something you would use at high tea.

To achieve this I stamped the mug in Crumb Cake ink, stamped off, on Fluid 100 Cardstock. Then I took the floral corner stamp from the Country Flowers stamp set, masked off a section, and stamped the floral image onto the mug with Crumb Cake ink stamped off. Using a Blender Pen, I worked on the watercolouring of the flowers, mug and coffee.

The outline of the stamped image was quite faint and I did improvise a little bit with the flowers and leaves where I couldn’t see the image too well. This didn’t matter as it lent to the watercoloured look I was aiming for.

The handle was stamped separately in Versamark and heat embossed in Gold. Once watercoloured, I attached this to the cup. For the saucer, I used the Round We Go dies, watercolouring the base and adding a Gold embossed centre for a matching set with my cup.

Some leaves from the Citrus Blooms dies fill in around the handle and the sentiment. A simple Gold bow and Pretty in Pink Resin Dots completed my vision for this card.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by my part of the world in Melbourne today and I hope you have been inspired by my card. I would love for you to leave me a comment as you hop through to see Cheryll Miller‘s beautiful project.
