Stampers Showcase Blog Hop – Winter Wonderland

Hello and welcome to Stamping Flair in Melbourne, Australia. It’s 12am, 1st of December when this blog hop goes live and we are officially in Summer and so far away from a Winter Wonderland. Our theme for the Stampers Showcase Blog Hop this month is Winter/Holidays.

I immediately wanted to create a winter themed project using the Feels Like Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper. This paper was brought out last Christmas and it was so popular it was brought out again this Christmas. It’s got beautiful photographic images of wintry, snowy scenery on one side, while the other side is accented with silver foil which is perfect for all year round projects.

I combined this with the Wishes & Wonder Bundle to create a card and gift tag with Blushing Bride adding a lovely shade of pink against the crisp white. It almost feels like a fairytale. I resisted the urge to add some Wink of Stella on that sleigh just in case it looked too much ‘princess carriage’ like.

I just had to use the embroidered ribbon from our new catalogue as it added to the rustic, wintry feel of this card.

Thank you for stopping my my blog today. I hope you give these projects a try. All products I’ve used are listed at the bottom of this post. Click on any of the items to go direct to my Online Store.

All I Want for Christmas

I have made it to Day 30 of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge and it’s an all encompassing theme of All I Want for Christmas. I apologize in advance if you now have Mariah Carey singing in your head all day long! You have 2 more months of that to go!! I quite like that song but I digress. Back to the fun stuff of cardmaking.

What would I like to receive as a Christmas card? I love all types. I love Christmas cards that tell the story of Jesus’ birth by the nativity scene or a Bible verse, I love vintage scenes with ice skaters amidst the twinkling Christmas lights, I love a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, I love cute and cuddly deer, I love wreaths, foliage and poinsettia. You’re probably getting the idea … I have a wide range of Christmas cards that I love.

My earliest memories of Christmas cards that really took me into a fairytale world were back when I was in Sri Lanka and our friends in England used to send us such beautiful Christmas cards which nearly always had a scene with snow and there was always glitter to make the season just that more sparkly. So today, my card draws on a little bit of all my favourite memories.

I chose the Snowflake Splendor Designer Series Paper for my base and tag combining it with other elements from the Snowflake Splendor Suite Collection to create this card. I started off with the tag and then worked out all the other bits and pieces around it.

By tearing a piece of Whisper White cardstock and DSP I was able to add a rustic touch to this card which otherwise had clean lines. I embossed the torn piece of cardstock with the Winter Snow Embossing Folder, sponging it with Misty Moonlight ink.

The Balmy Blue Glimmer Paper is so pretty and die cut with the foliage die it adds just the right amount of Christmas sparkle. I added some extra silver leaves die cut from the beautiful Feels Like Frost Designer Series Paper. This DSP was brought out in our last Christmas catalogue and was so popular that it has been brought back this time. With photographic images of snow and ice on one side and silver foil on the other, this is a luxurious paper suitable even for weddings and other occasions.

PLEATED STRIP

  • Cut a strip of paper 2cm wide (or whatever width you prefer)
  • Use Paper Trimmer to score at 2cm, 3cm, 5cm, 6cm (so your first gap is at 2cm and the second gap is 1cm from there, then 2cm and so on)
  • Valley fold and Mountain fold your score lines to form a pleat
  • Burnish well using a Bone Folder
  • Add Tear n’ Tape to the back to hold together as this makes it easier to work with

During October you can get the Snowflake Splendor Designer Series Paper for $17 giving you 12 sheets of 12″x12″ double-sided papers. You can view all the papers on sale by clicking the image below.

I have come to the end of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge and I hope you have enjoyed my creations. You can search for the challenge in the Search Bar to find all my cards I created for this challenge. My thanks goes to Martin Stone at Martin’s Mayhem for the opportunity to participate in this. It has been super fun and definitely got me out of my comfort zone at times. You will want to check out Martin’s cards for this challenge as they are awesome.

Back in My Day – Vintage Christmas Card

Christmas is such a beautiful season where we make memories with our families and loved ones. The theme for Day 17 of Martin Stone’s #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge is Back in My Day. Creating a vintage card was lots of fun. There definitely was no snow ‘back in my day’ when I was growing up in Sri Lanka. I have such wonderful memories of Christmas with my family. I created this snowy card because Christmas makes me think of snow as we used to stories during Christmas or receive beautiful Christmas cards with lovely pictures centred around snow.

The Feels Like Frost Designer Series Paper provided the backdrop for my vintage card. I used the Craft ink pad to go right around the edges of the paper. Then, using a sponge dauber, I added Cinnamon Cider and Early Espresso ink.

This cute cabin from Still Scenes stamp set nestled perfectly against the background. I coloured this in a combination of Stampin’ Blends and die cut it with the coordinating die.

I couldn’t go past the beautiful lace trim for this vintage card. A length of Poppy Parade ribbon was coloured with the Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blend to create my coordinating ribbon.

The sentiment from For Unto Us stamp set has also been distressed using Cinnamon Cider ink.

Today is the last day to get the Early Bird special when you book in for the Christmas Retreat. Click on image to book.

Having the Christmas Blues

We are over the halfway mark of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge and it’s another sketch challenge. My card ended nowhere near where it started. The paper, colour combination – everything – is completely opposite to what I started with. Does that ever happen to you? You start off with one idea but inspiration just takes you elsewhere. So we’re now having the Christmas Blues – shades of pretty blues.

My card began with the choice of Designer Series Paper – specifically a non-Christmas DSP. The Whale of a Time DSP had this beautiful blue speckled sheet which reminded me of winter and snow. This was going to be perfect for my background.

The Feels Like Frost DSP has always been a favourite of mine with it’s scenic images on one side and silver foil accents on the other. An image of a field on the paper made me choose the deer from the Most Wonderful Time Product Medley for my focal image.

I created a small strip of paper at the back to coordinate with my card. Using scraps of Seaside Spray cardstock, I cut varying widths and made an accent strip at the back.

Ink. Stamp. Share Blog Hop – Holiday Catalogue

Hi,

Welcome to my blog Stamping Flair. I’m hopping with my friends from the  Ink, Stamp, Share Blog Hop Group. We’re displaying products from the Holiday catalogue.

My cards feature the pretty Feels Like Frost Designer Series Paper (#150444). I have used the side which has photographic imagery to decorate my cards. You can find this from Pages 41-42 of the catalogue.

The other side of this beautiful paper has hand-drawn designs with silver foil. The images are suitable for any type of occasion – not just the Christmas season.

The cardinal is from the Toile Christmas bundle (#152367) which can be found from Pages 6-9 of the catalogue. I coloured the images with a variety of Stampin’ Blends which make colouring so easy. Which colour cardinal do you like best?
