aWow Blog Hop – Let’s Shake Things Up!
Hi friend,
Welcome to Stamping Flair. I’m a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia and today I’m participating in our monthly aWOW (Around the World on Wednesday) Blog Hop. It’s 8pm here and it could be the early hours of Wednesday morning or somewhere inbetween, where you are. Hence our blog hop name.
Let’s Shake Things Up is our theme for this month’s hop. Angie Mackenzie does such a great job in coming up with our fun themes each month. So this month we are trying out something that’s new to us – be it technique, fun fold, colour palette. It was shaking the brain a bit I guess! So I decided to try a new technique to me – the Faux Linen Technique. I have seen this technique done on cards before but have not actually tried it.
Faux Linen Technique
Products Required
- Cardstock or DSP (if using DSP, adhere it to cardstock the same size)
- Tissue paper slightly larger than cardstock piece
- Liquid glue
- sponge (cut in 1/4)
Method
- Completely scrunch up the tissue paper into a ball. It should have lots of creases. Ensure it doesn’t get torn. If you are stamping on it, do this prior to scrunching it up. Then open it out carefully.
- Using the sponge, completely cover cardstock/DSP with glue.
- Centre the tissue paper and lay it down on the cardstock with glue. Pat down but don’t smooth out as you want all the creases to show. Leave to dry 3-4 minutes.
- Turn the cardstock over and glue down the excess tissue and miter the edges. If you have a lot of tissue overhanging, trim down and then glue.
It was time to make my first Christmas cards for the season and I just couldn’t resist the Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper. Slimline Cards seem to be all the rage now. So off I went to figure out what a Slimline Card was thinking I could add this to my ‘shake it up’ things I haven’t tried before. When I Googled and Pinterested I found several and realized they are pretty much what I have been calling DL cards. Slimline sounds so much better.
I’ve made mine a little shorter so that it fits in a regular DL envelope. Card base measures 20cm x 10cm folded in half.
I created the Faux Linen piece using Designer Series Paper which I attached to a piece of cardstock cut to the same size. Once I had adhered the tissue, I went over it with Misty Moonlight ink using a sponge dauber.
I love the cute background DSP which is so cheery and fun. The mountains with the trees was die cut from Shimmery White cardstock which I coloured using my Water Painters. Some houses fussy cut, create this cute scene. There is a whole sheet of sentiments from which I’ve cut out my sentiments and used on both of my cards today.
For my next card, I stamped the tissue paper with some snowflakes from the Nature’s Beauty stamp set, before crumpling it up to create my Faux Linen piece.
The snow has been sparkled with Shimmery Crystal effects.
I love the quaint houses in the Coming Home bundle. Coloured with Stampin’ Blends these offer simple and fun cards. You could also opt for fussy cutting the houses from one of the DSP sheets for those times you may not feel like colouring.
I hope you have enjoyed these cards I’ve shared today and shake things up in your craft room by giving something new a try. All the products I’ve used on my cards are listed at the end of this post.
You will not want to miss any of the inspiration that is being shared by all our blog hop participants. I know I can’t wait to see what each one has created. Next on our hop is the lovely Cazz Boylan. Click on the Next Blog button to see her beautiful creation. Enjoy the rest of your trip around the world!
