Engagement card with the Forever Lovely suite

This card was made for an order from a work friend who requested a card for her daughter’s engagement. I have been in a bit of a slump lately. The All My Love Suite was just perfect to create this engagement card to inspire me and give me a starting point with colours. As it was an Engagement card I wanted to create a larger card so I folded a sheet of Blushing Bride cardstock in half to create the A5 card base.

Engagement card using Forever Lovely stamp set by Stampin' Up!,

I die cut the edgelit on Whisper White cardstock which still left it attached to the cardstock but gave those nice cut outs from the flowers. I stamped the leaves in Soft Sea Foam on top of this piece to give a fuller look.  On another piece of Whisper White cardstock the flowers and leaves were stamped. Then this panel of cardstock was adhered behind the die cut panel so the colours showed through. This immediately added the colour.

The extra flower on top was inked in Blushing Bride first. Then using a sponge dauber I added some Lovely Lipstick ink around the edges to give the two-tone effect. For the leaves I used this same method with Soft Sea Foam and Shaded Spruce ink on Soft Sea Foam cardstock. There are matching dies to cut out the flower and leaves and this made it easy to create and add more dimension to that die cut panel.

Colour enamel dots with Stampin' Blends, Forever Lovely suite, Congratulation, Love

The sentiment is from the Flourishing Phrases stamp set. In this set you get 2 sets of stamps and the sentiment fit so many occasions. I especially like the font used which is used in this set. The Epoxy Heart Droplets come clear and you get 72 hearts in 3 different sizes. I coloured these in with the Dark Lovely Lipstick Stampin’ Blend. I did 3 coats of colour, leaving a bit of drying time between each. The Lovely Lipstick hearts were the perfect finishing touch for my card.

My friend loved the card and that made me so happy because I love sharing my passion of card making and seeing the joy it brings the recipient.

Step-it-Up Sunday #53 Country Rooster Card for all Cardmakers

Hi friends,

What a wonderful 3 months we have had with Sale-A-Bration and all the excitement it brings with it. With today being the last day of Sale-A-Bration I have chosen one of my favourite Sale-A-Bration stamp sets to work with. I just love the Home to Roost stamp set and for this card I”m working with a very simple colour palette of Night of Navy and Very Vanilla.

Beginner

Beginner card with Home to Roost Saleabration stamp set

This is a definite #simplestamping project for the beginner crafter. All the images have been stamped in Night of Navy for this card. I punched out the rooster with the 2″ circle punch and then added a 2¼’ circle in Night of Navy. This was mounted onto the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Layer this onto a Night of Navy card base and you have a quick and easy card ready to go.

Casual

To add more detail on this card, I embossed a panel of Very Vanilla cardstock with the Hexagon embossing folder. As this is a Dynamic Textured Impression Embossing Folder (a really detailed and thick one) it’s best to give your cardstock a light mist of water with your Spritzer so the cardstock doesn’t crease, before running through the Big Shot.

The rooster has been coloured in with a combination of Stampin’ Blends. I added the gingham ribbon at the join using double sided tape (tear & tape). I used the Classic Label punch for the sentiment and shortened the edge by reinserting one end back into the punch.

Avid

To step up this card I have added some heat embossing and also used the Faux Suede technique to create the Night of Navy panel on the bottom of the card.

Step-it-Up Sunday, Home to Roost, Sale-A-Bration card, Faux Suede Technique

Faux Suede Technique
  • Take your piece of cardstock and scrunch it well in the palm of your hand. Open it out and scrunch it in every direction so it’s completely crushed. Then use your bone folder and stretch the cardstock towards you. The idea is to breakdown the fibres of the cardstock.
  • After doing this for a while the cardstock will naturally begin to separate. At this point, carefully peel the cardstock apart.

Faux Suede Technique, Step-it-Up Sunday

I then stamped and heat embossed the grass in gold on the inner side of the faux suede piece of cardstock.

Once I embossed the Very Vanilla cardstock with the Hexagon embossing folder, I lightly tapped the Versamark inkpad in sections over the cardstock. Then I added Gold Embossing Powder. This will show up the square edges of the Versamark stamp pad so just go over these edge with a dry paint brush to soften the harsh edges and make it look more natural when the embossing powder melts. Then I heat embossed the panel. I repeated this with the Copper Embossing Powder.

The rooster was heat embossed and coloured with Stampin’ Blends. I love the look of layered cardstock and I also do the same with my ribbons. In this case I have layered the gold ribbon onto the gingham to tie in with the rest of the card.

Botanical Butterfly Cards with Butterfly Elements

Butterfly Elements are some really cute embellishments which are on offer during Sale-A-Bration. As expected there are butterflies but there are also various flowers and different sized leaves which can be used for your projects. The natural look of these really appeal to me but you will see on the second card that there are ways to alter this.

Card 1

Easy layout with Saleabration itemBotanical Butterfly DSP, Organdy ribbon, Butterflies, Handmade card

This card uses the beautiful Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper – 3 different patterns of it. The black checks adds a nice contrast against the butterflies. I have attached the butterfly element with glue dots. You do need to be careful when removing these off the backing board as they can chip if you put too much pressure on it. Just work your way around it and it just pops out. I’ve layered some ribbons together and added the butterfly on top. The only stamped element is the sentiment. This is a great layout for using up your patterned paper.

Card 2

Handmade card with Botanical Butterfly patterned paper and Embossed butterfly

This card too shows off the beauty of that butterfly paper. How pretty is it? I had some leftover embossed Lemon Lime Twist cardstock so I cut it down and used it under the sentiment. I’ve also made use of the free Organdy Ribbon from Sale-A-Bration. This pack comes in 5 colours so it’s a great item to get as a freebie. I also used the die from the Beautiful Layers set to coordinate the inside of the envelope with the card.

The butterfly is from the Butterfly Elements. I used Black Embossing Powder to achieve this effect. I love the glossy look it gives to it. Using a pair of tweezers to hold onto the edge helps you when using the heat gun. I applied the embossing powder twice to make sure I got every section. That butterfly really stands out against the background and ties in with the paper with the black dots. The black and white options in this paper makes it versatile.

Vintage-Look Seaside Card

The By the Bay stamp set has got to be one of my favourite items from the Sale-A-Bration Catalogue. I love the serene images and that house overlooking the water looks so peaceful.

First glance at this stamp set can be a little bit daunting. Well, it was for me anyway because all I could see was colouring. I love colouring and have enjoyed colouring in these images. However, I really wanted to find another way of using it which took less time but still achieved a great result. So this is how today’s card came about.

I stamped the image in Early Espresso ink and distressed the edges with a sponge dauber using Crumb Cake and Early Espresso. This created the vintage feel to the image. Tearing the edges of the Designer Series Paper also gives the aged look. To achieve this in a fairly straight line, hold your left index finger close to the edge of the paper while ripping it with your right hand. This guides the direction of the paper somewhat.

Handmade vintage style seaside card with Stampin' Up! Saleabration stamp set By the Bay

I stamped the shell, coloured it with the Caypso Coral watercolour pencil and fussy cut it before attaching it with liquid glue. This just adds a nice touch of colour along with the Coastal Cabana doily.

The sentiment was embossed with White Embossing Powder on Early Espresso cardstock and gives a bit of the beach feel with the linen thread that I’ve used to ‘hang’ it.

You’ve still got a few days left to get this stamp set FREE during Sale-A-Bration. If you’re not sure what this is all about – ask me for details.
