Winter Winds – 30 Day Christmas Card Making Challenge

Always up for a challenge and ready to get some serious Christmas card making done this month, I’m taking part in Martin Stone’s 30 Day Christmas Card Making Challenge.

The theme for Day 1 is Winter Winds. As soon as I saw this I felt a cold, winter chill and a scene popped up in my mind which I wanted to recreate. A chilly, winter’s night with the snow falling to the ground and the wind roaring around sounds cold and cozy all at the same time.

I created a swirling background to depict the wind by swiping my Smoky Slate ink pad across the Whisper White cardstock in a downward swiping motion. This was repeated in Misty Moonlight and a little bit of Early Espresso. Then I used the Kraft ink refill and watered it down with my fine tip Water Painter. I flicked the brush against the lid of the Water Painter to splatter the white ink over my prepared layer.  I did the same with the Frost White Shimmer Paint. All these colours and textures created a really blustery, winter’s night.

The die cut trees have been brushed with Wink of Stella and although it’s not easy to pick this up on the photo, it adds a very subtle shimmer.

I just had to add this cute little house from the Coming Home bundle to complete my scene, making it warm and inviting amidst the cold and wild weather going on outside.

SSC208 Sketch Challenge Christmas Wishes

I’m getting ready for Christmas with my first Christmas card for the year. It’s Christmas in July. I’ve chosen a soft colour scheme of Mint Macaron, Very Vanilla and Crumb Cake.

Although not your traditional Christmas colours, it works beautifully together and creates this wintry Christmas card. I started off with the beautiful gingham Designer Series Paper in Mint Macaron. The gingham pattern comes in every colour of the Stampin’ Up! range. You can purchase each colour range ie: Brights, Regals, Subtles, Neutrals, and In-Colour packs.

Isn’t it beautiful in Mint Macaron? But then again, I just love gingham.

Then I added a border on the left with a lace border from the Delicate Lace dies. The die cut tree has been stamped in Mint Macaron on Very Vanilla cardstock and the edges sponged with Shaded Spruce. This has been mounted with Stampin’ Dimensionals onto a panel stamped with the trees in Crumb Cake. This entire panel has been mounted with Stampin’ Dimensionals onto the card base.

The sentiment has been stamped in Early Espresso onto Mint Macaron cardstock and then punched out with the Story Label punch. I re-inserted the label into the punch to create a smaller label. This has been layered with a section of the Kraft Pillow Box which I cut out (aaah – I know I did struggle with cutting it apart but it was worth it!).

I used the sketch from Sunday Stamps to create this card. Once I created this card and looked at the others, I realized that my lace border, gingham and Christmas theme was a bit like Amy Koenders’ card (it was not intentional I promise!). Check out Amy’s card. It’s very cute. To be inspired by more ideas with this sketch, please click on the link below.
