Sketchtember Challenge – Day 14 Joseph’s Coat Technique

The Joseph’s Coat Technique is a fun background to create using Clear embossing powder and inks. I’ve created a vibrant background with it for Day 14 of my Sketchtember Challenge.

To create the background it’s ideal to have solid images such as the one from the Lovely & Lasting stamp set. First I blended Granny Apple Green, Shaded Spruce and Tahitian Tide over Basic White Cardstock. Then I stamped the large floral stamp randomly over the entire background in Versamark and heat embossed in Clear Embossing Powder.

With Night of Navy ink I blended colour over the entire embossed piece of Cardstock. The embossing will resist the colour and like magic, the colour which was blended underneath will show through. This is such a wow look and can be created very easily.

I’ll be demonstrating this technique on my Creative Escape FB Live tonight at 7:30pm. I hope you can join me for some crrafting.

Step-it-Up Sunday #18 Crafting Forever

Hi,

Welcome to a new week filled with opportunities and I hope lots of crafting time. After this week of work I have 2 weeks of holidays coming up. It will be good to have some family time and some extra crafting time. Step-it-Up Sunday, this week, features a technique that is fun, easy and effective.

It’s been some time since I pulled out my Crafting Forever Stamp set. I had a particular image in my mind of paint splashes with the tub of paint brushes which I wanted to create on my card. The Sunshine Wishes stamp set had the splash image I wanted for this effect.

To create the Basic card, matte a Basic Gray panel onto a Merry Merlot card base. Merry Merlot is one of the new colours which has been added into the Stampin’ Up! Neutrals range. Stamp the paintbrush tub in Tuxedo Black Memento ink. Then colour in using Watercolour pencils in your choice of colours.

Stamp the splash image in Bermuda Bay and Crushed Curry. I added a strip of washi tape to the Basic card as it’s a quick and easy way to create a border.

Fussy cut the paintbrush tub and adhere with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

To step-up this card for the Advanced crafter, the panel with the splash images is created using the Joseph’s Coat Technique.

Joseph’s Coat technique

Completely cover your Whisper White panel with Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry and Flirty Flamingo ink. I used the stamp to do this and filled in the gaps using sponge daubers.

Stamp the ‘splash’ image in Versamark ink randomly over this panel. Ensure each time you stamp that you try to catch the different colours of the inks and the images aren’t overlapping. Cover with Clear Embossing powder and heat emboss. This is the result.Stampin’ Up, SU, Stamping Flair, Rochelle Laird-Smith, Crafting Forever, Step-it-Up Sunday, Joseph’s Coat Technique

Then take your Merry Merlot ink pad and stamp directly onto the heat embossed panel. This step can also be completed with a sponge brayer. The embossing will resist the colour. Stampin’ Up, SU, Stamping Flair, Rochelle Laird-Smith, Crafting Forever, Step-it-Up Sunday, Joseph’s Coat Technique

Wipe over your image with a tissue. This brings out the embossed images and highlights them.

It was my first time trying this technique and I love it. It’s  so simple and effective. This colour scheme made me think of my next project using it and I think Merry Merlot will feature as well. What do these colours remind you of?

I hope you give these cards and technique a try and would love to hear how you go with it.

Have a great week.

Love

Rochelle
