Joy to the World

I start singing the old, familiar Christmas carol as I see the theme of Joy to the World for Day 27 of the #30DayChristmasCardMaking Challenge . Stampin’ Up! have several stamp sets that fit in with this sentiment but we needed to put a spin on the theme.

The Beautiful World bundle had the globes that suited this world-themed challenge. As I think about Christmas and what it means, it’s about families and coming home and no matter where you are in the world or how you celebrate Christmas, every family enjoys this special time of getting together.

I wanted to depict this in my card. The Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper has a sheet which has several sentiments and words in different languages centred around Christmas. Now, I don’t know what they mean but I am certain they are to do with Christmas and it brings joy to someone, somewhere in the world. The Paper Trimmer came in very handy for the process of cutting up all the sentiments.

I used the Stitched Triangles to add a contrast for the globe and main sentiment to stand out on, cutting one in half to create more interest in the background.

Emboss Resist Technique Challenge

The Emboss Resist Technique is such a fun technique and a great challenge for Day 14 of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge . Emboss Resist is a technique of stamping an image with Versamark and heat embossing it. Then when you stamp or add ink over it, the embossing ‘resists’ the ink and is visible while the background takes on the ink colour.

I chose the Peaceful Boughs and Christmas Gleaming stamp set to work with and then selected my colour palette.

The boughs were heat embossed in White Embossing Powder. Then I used a sponge brayer to add Bumble Bee, Terracotta Tile and Melon Mambo over the entire piece of Whisper White cardstock. I didn’t worry about the ink going over the embossing as it resists the colour and a bit of tissue would wipe that clean.

Once I had applied and blended all 3 colours, I wiped the excess off using a tissue. I found that the darker colours still didn’t make my embossing as white as I wanted. Using a cotton bud, I dabbed some Stampin’ Mist on it and set about rubbing the colour off the embossing. This brought up the white lots more and made it brighter.

The bauble was heat embossed in white and then I coloured it with Stampin’ Blends. I love how the embossing shines through.

I stamped the sentiment in Tuxedo Black ink using the Stamparatus. This let me stamp it a couple of times so the sentiment was nice and clear. Then I die cut the word Joy from Whisper White cardstock and offset it giving it a shadow effect.

This Peace & Joy bundle has been getting a lot of use in my craft room as it’s so versatile with it’s layering options. A full list of the products I’ve used are at the bottom of this post. Every $50 spent in my store earns you 1 Stamping Flair loyalty point. Once you get 10 points , you get to select $40 of products from my Online Store.

Hope you have a joy-filled day.

Joyful Holly Colour Challenge Card

We have a beautiful colour challenge for Day 12 of Martin Mayhem’s #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge. I love this colour combination of Soft Sea Foam, Blushing Bride and Crumb Cake.

I have combined this stamp set with the sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches FMS452.

Freshly Made Sketches, #fms452, 30daychristmascardmakingchallenge

The Joyful Holly stamp set is a two-step stamp making it a great stamp set for beginner stampers. You stamp the outline with the first stamp and then the inner colour with the second stamp.

I stepped up my stamping by stamping the outline in Gold Embossing Powder. Then I stamped the inside of the image in Soft Sea Foam and Blushing Bride.

#30daychristmascardmakingchallenge, Stampin' Up!, SU, Christmas Card with word dies

The label has been embossed with the Parisian Flourish embossing folder to add some beautiful texture.

The Joy Dies create this beautiful sentiment which can be layered in the coordinating colours, providing lots of versatility.

If you are loving this beautiful sentiment die, make sure you book in for our weekend long Papercraft Retreat in November. I’ll be showing you more projects using the Joyful Dies and it’s coordinating stamp set Peace & Joy. More details below.
