Step-it-Up Sunday #22 Nature Inspired Christmas Card

Hi Stampers,

Welcome to my Christmas in July edition of Step-it-Up Sunday. Thank you for visiting Stamping Flair today. I am so glad you have taken the time to stop by and I hope you enjoy browsing the site which has had a bit of a revamp in the last week.

I thought I’d squeeze in a Christmas card before July flies past us. Today’s card uses the beautiful stamp sets –  Nature Sings and Rooted in Nature.  Quite a coincidence that both these sets are ‘nature’ stamps. They paired well together and I am yet again convinced that there is no end to the uses of the Rooted in Nature bundle,  it is a whopper bundle with so many dies and stamps.

The idea in my mind was to create a rustic card in natural tones to blend with the stamp sets. So for the Basic card, you create a wood effect with the stamp from Timeless Textures using Early Espresso. Stamp off several times to achieve a very light shade. Create rows of pine with Mint Macaron stamped off for some trees and then in full strength for others. Add more pine trees along the front in Shaded Spruce stamped off. This creates the background for your card.

The deer is stamped in Soft Suede on Tranquil Tide DSP and punched out. At times it’s nice to have the texture of the Designer Series Paper instead of plain cardstock to stamp on as it adds more dimension to the card,

To step this card up for the Intermediate level, add a layer of Under the Mistletoe Designer Series Paper. I loved how the deer on this paper matched the stamped image. The papers in this pack are so vibrant, colourful and  for those who like the traditional Christmas colours, this pack is definitely for you.

Replace the wood stamp with a layer of Wood Texture Designer Series Paper punched with the Tailored Tag punch. Adhere this with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Linen thread tied through the button adds a bit of a country feel to the card.

Using the remaining ink on the rubber stamp and run the stamp along the edge of the Very Vanilla panel to take off the stark edges. This is an alternative way of distressing the edges of the cardstock.

Add some die cut trees stamped on Mint Macaron cardstock to create the Advanced card.

Create the frame for the deer using a circle one size larger and one size smaller than the image. Then adhere on top of image and mount with Dimensionals. Cut and separate the strands of Burlap ribbon and add behind the Very Vanilla using double sided tape.

Create a Bridge Fold Card Step-by-Step

This is my second card I’ve created with this fancy, yet easy fold. The first time I made it was for my daughter, Cassidy’s, birthday. Each year she gets a card with a new fold which I haven’t tried before. This is part of the excitement for her each year and she really looks forward to seeing what I make for her. You can see the original card here – Bridge Fold Birthday. This is an enlarged version of Lyssa Griffith Zwolanek’s card.

I’m using the Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper to create today’s card. This paper is part of the buy 3 get 1 free promotion so if you love it, why not make the most of this offer and grab 4 of your favourite packs and only pay for 3.

To create the tree I inked up the trunk in Soft Suede and the foliage in Mint Macaron and went over sections in Tranquil Tide. Stamp leaves in Tranquil Tide on Mint Macaron and die cut. Distress edges of tree and leaves in Soft Suede ink. Attach the bottom half of tree with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Use a bone folder to curve the leaves and attach using liquid glue and Dimensionals.

The twine has been secured on the back of the sentiment with tear and tape adhesive and the circle mounted with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

You can either write your message in the centre of the card, prior to assembling or attach a separate panel on the reverse of the centre section and write on the back. The latter is my preferred method because then I can decorate it any way I like and decide at a later time who I’d like to send it to.

Try this fold with other Designer Series Paper to achieve different looks.
