I start singing the old, familiar Christmas carol as I see the theme of Joy to the World for Day 27 of the #30DayChristmasCardMaking Challenge . Stampin’ Up! have several stamp sets that fit in with this sentiment but we needed to put a spin on the theme.
The Beautiful World bundle had the globes that suited this world-themed challenge. As I think about Christmas and what it means, it’s about families and coming home and no matter where you are in the world or how you celebrate Christmas, every family enjoys this special time of getting together.
I wanted to depict this in my card. The Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper has a sheet which has several sentiments and words in different languages centred around Christmas. Now, I don’t know what they mean but I am certain they are to do with Christmas and it brings joy to someone, somewhere in the world. The Paper Trimmer came in very handy for the process of cutting up all the sentiments.
I used the Stitched Triangles to add a contrast for the globe and main sentiment to stand out on, cutting one in half to create more interest in the background.
I hope this inspires you to look at your Designer Series Paper in another way by chopping it – into tiny bits – and getting creative with it. Trimming the Town DSP and ‘Tis the Season DSP are on sale at 15% off. See the full range of papers on sale here.

Martin Stone’s Colour Challenge for Day 6 of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge immediately set me thinking of a modern twist on Christmas. Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo and Basic Black – I had imagery of sleek lines and angles with these colours.
A Christmas tree of triangles was going to give the look I wanted. I chose the Artistry Blooms Designer Series Paper as it had these colours in it (including several others) and had some sheets with simple patterns and others with ombre colouring which was perfect for my geometric look.
I used the striped stamp from The Right Triangle stamp set and die cut it with a square from the Stitched Shapes dies. A simple sentiment keeps this card clean and simple.
My card today combines several styles and I really love how they all came together. The delicate lace, soft watercolouring and the lines of the triangle, a rather unusual combination, blended well to create this Stitched Lace birthday card.
I die cut the lacy background from regular Whisper White cardstocck and then stamped with the Poppy fill-in stamp using Highland Heather third generation stamping. This means that I stamped off on a scrap paper twice so I got a very faint colour on my cardstock. Then I stamped with Seaside Spray giving the stamp a circular twist while stamping so the image wasn’t defined. I spritzed some water over the colours to give it a watercolour wash look, taking care not to saturate the cardstock. Using a heat gun on Setting 1 speeds up the drying process.
The Plush Poinsettia Vellum DSP creates some beautiful flowers using the Small Bloom punch. I’ve dotted the centres with the Playing with Patterns Resin Dots.
The linen thread is a strand I pulled out from the Tri-colour linen tread in the Flowers for Every Season combo. Once you do this you will still have the silver and white to use on another project.
I’ve been inspired by the sketch challenge at TGIF Challenges #TGIFC277 for this card. All the products I have used for this card are listed below. To order, click on any of the products which will take you to my Online Store.
