Last week I took part in a fun In-Colour Challenge where each participant was given a piece of cardstock, Designer Series Paper, ribbon in an In-Colour and also a gold foil-edged card to create something in our own style. I received Terracotta Tiile. I was so pleased because I think this is a nice blend against the gold. The Gold Foil Edged cards are great value at $17.50 for 20 foil edged cards and envelopes. They come in silver too and are perfect for Christmas cards.
I watercoloured a hibiscus from the Tropical Oasis stamp set and mixed several colours so it toned in with Terracotta Tile. The background layer is a faux suede Whisper White piece of cardstock. You can find out how to create the faux suede technique here.
The gold foil leaves are from the retiring Tropical Dies. I am going to miss this set so much. Those palm leaves and that die cut inset – so beautiful. I fussy the sentiment from one of the cards in the Memories & More card pack and I think this is so apt for the current situation we find ourselves in. A great pick me up card for someone who needs some encouragement.

Lovely to have you visit me today. I’ve got a tropical themed Thank you card that I am going to share with you. It seems very apt to be making Thank you cards at this time. So many people who are serving, helping, assisting and being kind in an environment where we need it so much at the moment. It’s great to be able to participate in Kylie Bertucci’s International Blog Highlight this month and you can view the gallery for more gratitude inspired projects.
I used the Tropical Oasis Memories & More card pack with the Partial Die Cutting technique to create the centrepiece with the ukelele.
Partial Die Cutting
This involves fussy cutting around the leaves, ukelele (anything other than the circle). Then place the circle die over the image, lifting the fussy cut parts above the die so it doesn’t get cut in the process. Run this through the die cutting machine. I had to run it through twice because of the position of this image. This resulted in a nice circle instead of having to fussy cut around that. Each image will vary. You can try this with various shapes and have a bit of fun.
The sentiment was stamped in the new Saddle Brown Stazon ink. This is such a warm colour which complements the Tropical Oasis suite. I couldn’t resist adding a quaver from the Music from the Heart stamp set to coordinate with the ukelele for a musical theme.
I hope I have inspired you to make and send some thank you cards. It will lift someone up for sure. If you like my card, I would appreciate you clicking on the ‘Vote for me’ button and selecting your top 5 favourites. The Top 10 winners get to participate in an International Blog Hop at the end of the month so that would be fun.

Fun, bright and cheerful projects that take you to the tropics are made simple with the Tropical Oasis Memories & More card pack. Sun, sand, palm trees, surf ….. it’s all here in this suite. The background layer is one of the larger cards which I cut down to size. This image took me back to to the place of my birth – Sri Lanka, where street vendors sell young coconuts, with the top cut just enough for you drink out of. It’s not fancy like the coconut in my card but it’s refreshing in the heat.
I fussy cut the coconut from one of the smaller cards in this pack. Don’t be afraid of fussy cutting. This was quite a simple project and it can be quite therapeutic. Make sure you get a good pair of paper snips.
The sentiment has been heat embossed with White Emboss Powder. I stamped the Pool Party layer beneath with the tops of the palm trees in Pool Party ink. Stamping tone on tone (coloured ink on same colour cardstock) gives a subtle background and adds interest to an otherwise plain piece of cardstock. To complete this I added some flowers from the sticker sheets provided in the pack.
