Hi friend,
Welcome to our second Around the World on Wednesday (aWOW for short) Blog Hop. I’m so glad that you are here. If you missed our first blog hop, you can see it here.
Our theme this month is All Things Crafty, with a focus on our favourite colouring tools. From colouring mediums such as Stampin’ Blends, Stampin’ Write Markers, watercolour pencils, inks, ink refills and tools such as Aqua Painters, Blender Pens, Sponges to types of paper – it was always going to be a hard choice.
Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of watercolouring using my aqua painters and ink refills and I played around with that idea in my head, while Stampin’ Blends was up there too. Finally, brayering won out as I hadn’t done it in a while and I love the shaded effect that can be achieved with it. I have been inspired by a layout I saw in the new catalogue (Pg 33). Oh, I am teasing you aren’t I? Not long to go, just a few weeks.
For my card base, I used the Magnolia Lane Memories & More Cards & Envelopes. These have an elegant silver rectangle on the front which fit the Memories & More cards but for my card today, I have no evidence of silver – just earthy!
I started off by taking a 16cm x 11cm piece of Whisper White cardstock and stamping the leaves in Versamark ink. Then I heat embossed this in Copper embossing powder. I then used a sponge brayer to add So Saffron, Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Terracotta Tile and Cajun Craze – working on the long edge. Taking a piece of tissue I rubbed back the colour off the leaves to bring out the copper. The entire panel was then embosssed with the Pinewood Planks embossing folder.
I cut this into panels of various sizes to create an interesting background. Cut panels should be 13.8cm x 8.8cm once completed. Using a sponge dauber, I went over the embossing with Terracotta Tile on certain strips to bring out the wood look.
I loved the background and felt it was just perfect for a masculine card. By the Dock bundle seemed to fit with it’s nature theme. I’ve also used the dies from Catch of the Day. Both of these bundles, are great for making men’s cards or for anyone who enjoys some fishing and canoeing.
The circle has been partially embossed with the High Seas embossing folder. Then I used a sponge dauber to add some Bermuda Bay over the water. Sponge daubers are one of my favourite tools as they blend colours so easily. They are great for adding colour to edges to give a distressed look to images, you can also use them for quick colouring-in and because they are designed to slip over your finger, they are easy to control. Some additional die cut pieces and a kayak coloured in with Stampin’ Blends completes the focal image of this card.
