AWOW Blog Hop – This or That | His & Hers

Welcome friends to the Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop for August. It’s our 5th year as a team and our members are from Stampin’ Up! markets from around the world. On the second Wednesday of each month, we share inspiration using our much loved products, centred around a theme.

This year as we celebrate our special anniversary, our party is lasting all year long as we CASE a team member each month. To CASE is to Copy and Selectively Edit a project and I’ve had lots of fun scrolling through our talented team members’ projects as I have CASEd them over the last few months. Well, this month, our team is CASEing me! That just sounds so strange and it’s even stranger when I had to find a project to CASE myself!

Angie McKenzie is our fabulous leader who does wonderful work in setting our themes. I did have a smile when I saw Angie’s little description of me for her brief – Rochelle is known for her layers, layers and layers!!! She is also very talented with making double cards as in one feminine and one masculine using the stamp set/bundle. Was I that obvious? 😂 I love that Angie described me so much better than I probably would have done myself. I can’t wait to see what everyone is creating – so exciting.

Our theme is therefore, This or That with a focus on a His and Hers project. I selected this card, which I created in April 2024 using the Latte Love bundle, to CASE, choosing different elements from it for the 2 cards. Click on the above image to get the details of the original card.

For the products, I chose the Just a Note Bundle and this was actually the first time using it. As a stationery lover, I may be a little bit addicted to this bundle. There is so much that is in there which makes it perfect for cards for both guys and girls. To add a little more of a challenge to myself, I wanted to throw in a product that was really suited to work for female cards and adapt it to both cards. For this, I chose the Floral Charm Suite and this too has got lots to offer beyond the flowers.

HIS CARD

I started with the masculine card and as I created this, my mind went to the guy in our home, my partner, Adrian. He is a musician and a fantastic pianist. Now, if I was to find a notepad for him, it would have music notes on it.

As I don’t have any music notes or staves in my current products, I had to do some improvisation (not the musical kind)! I first drafted in pencil, then I took our Paper Snips and used the handle as a guide to draw the curve of the stave with the Secret Sea Stampin’ Write Marker. Then, I free handed the treble clef and notes with Cherry Cobbler and Blueberry Bushel Stampin’ Write Markers.

The note paper was attached to a second layer die cut from the Floral Charm Designer Series Paper. While this is Misty Moonlight, I added some Secret Sea for depth and coordination.

On the back of the notes, I created a soft wash look, by using the reverse of a stamp – in this case the large hibiscus. After inking it up in Coastal Cabana and stamping off, I diffused the edges with a wet wipe and stamped. This was repeated in Pecan Pie and it created a lovely subtle background.

I die cut some autumn leaves from the Beautiful Gallery DSP and shaded it with Pecan Pie. Some additional leaves from the Charming Day Bundle were coloured in Pool Party Stampin’ Blends and added to the foliage.

The bulldog clip up the top was stamped with the Stripes & Dots stamp set in Secret Sea and heat embossed twice in Clear Embossing Powder to hold this little note together. The ‘Just a Note’ sentiment was perfect for my music themed card.

HER CARD

For my next card, I went all pink, using Bubble Bath for my card base and adding an embossed layer similar to the original card I was CASEing.

Again I used the Stripes & Dots stamp set for the clip and also on the bottom of my note paper because us girls have to be all matchy, matchy!

A large fussy cut floral arrangement from the Floral Charm DSP adorns the note paper with a second layer of the DSP added to the back of the stamped Cardstock in front. This brings in the Berry Burst toning which I also added to the foil heart by colouring it in with the Light Berry Burst Stampin’ Blend.

I hope you have enjoyed my his and hers projects and have been inspired to use your products in different ways so you get the most out of them. Thank you so much for stopping by. Please go and check out how our other team members have been inspired – as I’m off to do!

  1. Gorgeous cards Rochelle … your original and your two cards for this hop. Love your style and I hope you have enjoyed seeing how everyone has interpreted your fabulous work. xx

  2. So, it’s a bit strange to copy yourself, isn’t it?
I love both projects so much. The foliage in the first one and the girly side of the second… It’s really impossible to choose between the two.
And I love all the little details that have been added. Well done! xx
