Step-it-Up Sunday #47 Go for it – Encouragement Card

Hi Friend,

It’s really nice to have you here and if it’s your first time, a special welcome. Today’s card uses another of my Top 5 sets which is the Let it Ride stamp set. I love the horses in it and there are some encouraging sentiments to use on cards.

Basic

I’ve used Old Olive as my card base and stamped the trees in Old Olive ink. The horse has been stamped in Soft Suede on Very Vanilla cardstock and the sentiment in Cajun Craze. The strips of paper have been extended to wrap around the back to give a neat finish.

Intermediate

To step this up, I coloured in the horse with Stampin’ Blends. Each time I use my Blends I love how simple they are to use. Even the beginner can master this in no time. I also punched out the sentiment and layered it to add some extra colour and dimension.

Advanced

This background was created with Brushos – Moss Green. I had forgotten how much fun it was to use it. Once dry, I stamped the trees in Old Olive. Then I embossed the Crackle in White embossing powder. A little bit crazy about this crackle stamp. I remember the days I used to do some folk art and using crackle medium to achieve this effect. This is much quicker!

I distressed the edges with Soft Suede and Cajun Craze for an aged look.

I could see this in a nice frame as a gift for someone as It’s got that homely look about it.

Step-it-Up Sunday #46 Wonderful Romance Valentine’s Card

Hi Stampers,

So glad that you could stop by Stamping Flair today. I’ve had quite a busy week and have also got something new in the works which I will be launching this week. So keep your eyes open for that. Super excited for this new venture.

With Valentine’s Day on Thursday, I thought this week’s Step-it-Up Sunday should be a Valentine’s Day card. With a name like Wonderful Romance, I really couldn’t go past this bundle. If you love florals, then this is for you. There are 15 coordinating dies and the leaves cut and emboss the veins at the same time – yeah! The Designer Series Paper includes some really pretty vellum sheets which I have incorporated in my cards. This suite also includes pretty embellishments and a very detailed Lace embossing folder.

Basic

For my Basic card I attached a strip of vellum Designer Paper to the card. As glue will show through vellum, just remember to add it to sections where another layer will camouflage it. In this case, I added it under my stamped panel. I stamped the floral image in Soft Suede ink onto Sahara Sand cardstock. Then I rounded the edges with the Detailed Trio Punch (my most favourite item from the Annual catalogue). This panel was then attached with Dimensionals.

The sentiment has been stamped in Mossy Meadow ink and attached with Dimensionals.

Intermediate

I trimmed 2cm off the top layer of the base card to highlight the leaf border. Isn’t it a pretty effect? If you look closely at this border you will notice the top row of the cutouts resemble hearts. Perfect for Valentine’s Day.

I stamped the floral image and die cut it. The border has been die cut from Soft Sea Foam cardstock. Simple, quick and yet a very elegant Basic and Intermediate set of cards.

Advanced

I stamped the floral image twice and die cut them then attached one image to the card with Dimensionals.

Whitewash Colouring Directions

  1. Take the other floral die cut and using your Aqua brush (with very little water) colour in all sections of the image using Whisper White ink refill. (it didn’t matter that my colouring was out of the lines because I was die cutting it anyway). Let it dry completely.
  2. With your Aqua brush and ink refills, colour in the image using Mossy Meadow, Soft Sea Foam and Fresh Fig ink refills.
  3. Die cut and attach with Dimensionals.

Then I stamped 3 lots of extra leaves in Mossy Meadow on Soft Sea Foam Cardstock and arranged them within the 2 layers of flowers. I used a bit of liquid glue to insert it into place. I added  3 more leaves which were die cut from Mossy Meadow cardstock. What I love about these dies is that it embosses the veins of the leaves and makes them look so realistic.

I coloured the sentiment with Fresh Fig and Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Markers, direct onto the stamp and then stamped it. Old technique but a great way to add multiple colours to projects.

Step-it-Up Sunday #45 Cupcake Sweetness

Hello and welcome to another new week full of inspiration and fun. What has your week been like? I’m back at school where I work 4 days a week. Start of the year is always hectic and each day zooms by. Cassidy started Year 10 and is now in Senior School, so she’s s got a full year ahead of her.

Today’s project started off with my choice of a colour – Pineapple Punch. I felt I had neglected it and hadn’t shown it much love at all so I wanted to feature it on my card. I then worked out some colours around it and came up with this colour combination.

The stamp I have chosen is the fun Hello Cupcake from Sale-A-Bration. and you can earn this free with any $90 purchase. This is such a cute set with some fun sentiments.

Basic

I created the border for the card with the edge of the cupcake stamp. The design, when stamped alongside each other reminds me of an ice cream truck. Some simple stamping and an addition of Designer Series Paper (DSP) is all you need to complete this quick and easy card.

Intermediate

I stepped this card up by adding a layer in Gorgeous Grape. Then I fussy cut the icing. I stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso on this card as I felt there was a bit too much purple hues and I needed to balance it up.

Advanced

I added a few drops of Pineapple Punch re-inker to the embossing paste to create the ‘frosting’ for this card. A 2″ strip of Pineapple Punch cardstock was punched on either end with the Scalloped Tag Topper punch. I also embossed this piece with the Oh My Stars embossing folder for an extra celebratory look.

Note: I have die cut the sentiment with the retired Farmouse die (I forgot these had retired) however, Frosted Bouquet Framelits would probably work well for this.

Now I feel like a cupcake and a cup of coffee. Yum!

Step-it-Up Sunday #44 Thanks for your Friendship

Home to Roost is the lovely country style stamp set I am using on my Step-it-Up Sunday feature. I just love the rooster in this set and I highlighted the reed which also come in this stamp set, in last week’s Step-it-Up Sunday. Pairing it with the Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper really gives it a country feel.

Basic

I have kept it simple for the Basic card because that’s what it’s about. Just stamps, ink and paper and I’ve added some embellishments – because I can’t help myself!

I stamped the rooster on Whisper White cardstock. Then I inked up a clear block directly with the Daffodil Delight ink pad, spritzed with water and ‘stamped’ it over the rooster. This added a watercolour – look over the image. An easy way to add colour to your image.

The flower which is from the Butterfly Elements Sale-A-Bration offering, has been attached with a glue dot.

I stepped this card up by adding die cut squares and colouring the rooster with Stampin’ Blends. Don’t the Stampin’ Blends add a lovely, vibrant colour? You can almost hear the rooster crow.

I added a sponged background to the rooster. This was done by masking. Sponge Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight and Old Olive around the rooster.

I altered the Gingham DSP by adding some lines with the Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker and Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blend to give it a bit of a plaid look. I think this adds to the country, homely feel of this card.

The Burlap ribbon has been separated and tied together to create the look of straw.

Step-it-Up Sunday #43 By the Bay

Hi Everyone,

Step-it-Up Sunday is back with a Sale-A-Bration stamp set. The beautiful By the Bay stamp set is a free Sale-A-Bration production you can earn with any $90 purchase during this promotion. There are some lovely beach images of seagulls, a seashell and a house by the sea which is beautiful and tranquil. There are so many ways to feature these on cards either by themselves or paired with other stamp sets. This was one of the first sets that caught my eye in this catalogue and as I live close to the beach, it was a definite ‘must have’.

I’ve teamed up this stamp set today with Home to Roost which is another Sale-A-Bration offering. It’s got an image of a rooster, the reeds which I’ve used on these cards and some great sentiments. I think Stampin’ Up! have come up with a fabulous range of Sale-A-Bration items to choose from this season.

Basic

To create this card, layer the Basic Gray cardstock on your Balmy Blue card base. Stamp the image in Stazon ink on Whisper White cardstock. Highlight some areas of the image with some basic colouring in with water colours. Use an aqua brush to soften the edges of the lines (this is optional). You don’t need to spend too much time on the colouring. Just enough to bring out a few elements of the picture.

Stamp the reeds and sentiment in Early Espresso.

Intermediate

Add some texture to the Whisper White layer by embossing it with the Pinewood Planks embossing folder. Using the edge of the Smoky Slate ink pad (the edge without a lip) run the ink pad down the embossing of the cardstock. Run it bottom to top as well. Do the same with the Balmy Blue ink pad. This gives it a beachy feel with the distressed look.

Stamp the reeds on top of this with Early Espresso ink. I could have done this prior to embossing however I liked the look of this.

Die cut the circles, stamp part of the image and colour sections of it. Stamp the sentiment and punch out with the Classic Label punch. To shorten the label, insert one side back into the punch and this will give you a shorter label.

Advanced

To step this card up, colour in the image in detail. Die cut 2 labels and attach in the top right corner. adding the linen ribbon which has been frayed.

Hope you give some of these ideas and techniques a try. I’d love to hear from you with feedback and enquiries.

Basic

Attach a layer of Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper onto Night of Navy Cardstock. Stamp the lily in So Saffron and the stem in Lemon Lime Twist.Stamp the sentiment over the image and then attach the panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals. This is a very quick card to create. The lily is just lovely on it’s own and you could do a variety of these in different colours.

Intermediate

Using the small blotchy stamp in the same set to add a border around the Whisper White panel with Cajun Craze which has been stamped off twice. Stamp the lily in So Saffron first. Then ink around the edges of the stamp in Cajun Craze and stamp over the first image. This will give you a two-tone effect. Do the same with your stem and leaf using Lemon Lime Twist and Mossy Meadow.

Advanced

Add extra dimension by stamping the two-tone lily and stem on another piece of Whisper White cardstock and fussy cutting them. Then attach with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Cut the circular die from the Beautiful Layers set. Cut this in half and trim off a bit of the middle section to create a smaller image. Attach this to the back of your sentiment which has been die cut. I loved the lacy feel this added to the card.
