Joy to the World

I start singing the old, familiar Christmas carol as I see the theme of Joy to the World for Day 27 of the #30DayChristmasCardMaking Challenge . Stampin’ Up! have several stamp sets that fit in with this sentiment but we needed to put a spin on the theme.

The Beautiful World bundle had the globes that suited this world-themed challenge. As I think about Christmas and what it means, it’s about families and coming home and no matter where you are in the world or how you celebrate Christmas, every family enjoys this special time of getting together.

I wanted to depict this in my card. The Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper has a sheet which has several sentiments and words in different languages centred around Christmas. Now, I don’t know what they mean but I am certain they are to do with Christmas and it brings joy to someone, somewhere in the world. The Paper Trimmer came in very handy for the process of cutting up all the sentiments.

I used the Stitched Triangles to add a contrast for the globe and main sentiment to stand out on, cutting one in half to create more interest in the background.

Christmas Ornaments with Holly

I love this sketch challenge for Day 26 of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge. It is so open and really gives you so many ways to interpret it. I’ve used the ornaments from the Cherish the Season stamp set to create my focal image, replacing the snowflake in the sketch.

I coloured the ornaments in Just Jade Stampin’ Blends and fussy cut them out. Then I heat embossed them in Clear Embossing Powder 3 times to give them a glossy finish. The holly from the Christmas Gleaming stamp set was also fussy and layered to form the focal image for my card.

The ornaments were placed on a Wonder of the Season Memories & More card which was been layered on ‘Tis the Season Designer Series Paper.

BANNER

To create the banner at the back, I die cut a Stitched Rectangle from Magic in the Night Designer Series Paper then used the same die to create the banner effect. This created a very short banner. I extended this by cutting the banner and gluing it at the back which gives the impression that there is a full length banner.

Do you love the Mesh Ribbon as much as I do? You may have missed it in the Mini catalogue. It’s on page 53 in the bottom right hand corner. It really is a pretty ribbon and adds a lovely softness to the card. For the sentiment, I took one of my favourites, from the Christmas Gleaming stamp set. Stamping the sentiment in black balances the colour against the black card base.

Why don’t you give this sketch a try? You could even flip it on it’s side. Working with sketches is a lot of fun. You can find all the products I’ve used listed at the bottom of this post. The ‘Tis the Season DSP and Magic in this Night DSP are on sale in our October Designer Series Paper Sale. View the entire selection by clicking on the image below.

All Wrapped Up and Finished with a Bow

On the home stretch of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge. How much fun this has been. Today’s theme is all about gift wrap and bows. I probably could have done a combined Day 24 and Day 25. Want to know why? Check out Day 24 here.

I love Christmas, what it means and I love the tradition of giving and receiving gifts. I have loads of fun just finding that perfect gift for someone. My daughter loves that as well and she loves giving gifts too. Choosing a gift is one part and then wrapping a gift is equally as important. Isn’t it like cooking a meal? It’s all in the presentation.

Day 25, #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge, Gift Wrapped Bundle, Christmas Card, Stampin' Up!, Mini Catalogue Holiday 2020

For our Christmas, we tend to buy lots of smaller things because we love to open heaps of presents. I wrap each gift differently and like to put different types of bows and different gift tags on each. So today’s challenge was no different. A bow without a gift was just not possible so I made my own gifts from the Heartwarming Hugs Designer Series Paper. You can get this paper, along with 14 others, at a 15% discount until 31st October.

Day 25, #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge, Gift Wrapped Bundle, Christmas Card, Stampin' Up!, Mini Catalogue Holiday 2020, Card with gifts

The bows were all fussy cut and although there is a punch for the larger bow, I fussy cut this too as I didn’t want the border around it. I have layered the bows for added dimension. Colour coordinating these bows was easy using the Stampin’ Blends which match with the paper.

The little gift tag is also part of the punch and when you buy the stamp and punch together you save 10% on the bundle cost. What other sentiment could I choose for this challenge other than ‘Tied with Love’ – perfect, don’t you think?

All Tied up with a Bow

Day 24 of the #30DayChristmasCardMaking Challenge brought along the colour combination of Old Olive, Purple Pumpkin and Rich Razzleberry. Although, together it’s a lovely combination, it wasn’t the regular Christmas colours one would put together. It actually has a bit of an autumn look to it. So the challenge was to make this card look Christmasy.

I initially wanted to use the bow from the Gift Wrap bundle to create a multi-coloured bow but then decided to keep it simple and elegant with some gold heat embossing. Then I coloured it in Rich Razzleberry Stampin’ Blends. The gold in the Ornate Garden Specialty DSP ties in with the heat embossing and adds the Old Olive element to this card.

The stars were stamped in Pumpkin Pie with the embellishments coloured with Stampin’ Blends to coordinate.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Hi Friend,

It’s October 1st and I’m still on Day 23 of the #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge. You’re my friends and I have to share with you that I struggled with creating this card. The challenge theme – Baby, it’s Cold Outside – was the easy part.

On Sunday, my daughter’s cat, Toulouse, died suddenly and this week we have been crying and doing lots of sitting and staring. She was nearly 4 years old and we are really feeling the loss greatly.

I have been struggling to do any creating since and have been working on this card for 2 days. I’m pleased that I finally got something together even though it’s not my finest work.

Do you find that papercrafting gets you through some tough times too as well as the good times? It’s nice to be able to relax and unwind even though sometimes it is a very slow process … we get there in the end.

My card is probably not the traditional brrrr… cold type. I decided to work with something I would have when it’s cold – hot chococolate.. Considering it’s International Coffee Day, well, chocolate may pass …just!

This card is all about warmth and being cozy with your loved one – because it’s cold outside. See, it all ties in. I used the Warm Hugs bundle together with the Press On stamp set to create this wintry card. I tied in the chill from the outside with the addition of an embossed panel in Merry Merlot using the Winter Snow embossing folder.

The Plaid Tidings Designer Series Paper forms the background for all the elements of my cozy card. It reminded me of a warm jumper. If you love plaid, you are going to love this paper which has simple checks with minimal colour as well as multi-coloured checks. You will also love the discounted price it has during October. You can shop the entire range of Designer Series Paper on sale here.

I will be continuing this challenge into October until completed so please subscribe to my blog so you don’t miss out on the rest of these cards.
