aWow Blog Hop – The World Around Us

Welcome to Stamping Flair in Melbourne, Australia. Today, our Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop team are sharing with you a glimpse into the world around us. We could be inspired by nature, colour, home decor, cushions, pets … anything in our lives right now.

AWOW Blog Hop Header

My inspiration today is from my front garden. Whenever someone in the neighbourhood (we live in a small town) asks where we live, I’ll say ‘the house with the huge palm tree in the front yard’. Well, it’s actually 2 palm trees that have merged into one. Don’t say a word, we did not plant it like this. It came when we bought the house and now it’s bigger than Ben Hur! So here’s a bit of a glimpse at it.

The large tree trunk with the look of a giant pineapple inspired me to create these leaves using the In the Tropics dies. I also added the cross-section of the tree trunk from the Rooted in Nature stamp set in keeping with my tree theme.

I wanted to recreate some stripes, similar to the Forever Greenery DSP but I wanted to use pink because my favourite colour is pink. So I chose a combination of Rococo Rose, Blushing Bride, Just Jade and Pear Pizzazz with 2 different sizes of Water Painters and painted the lines using a ruler as a guide.

A splatter of Champagne Mist using the lid of the Water Painter adds a bit of glimmer to this card.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting my part of the world. Next on our hop is Cazz Boylan. Please click on the Next Blog button to follow through to her blog and keep going for lots of creative inspiration.

aWow Blog Hop – Let’s Shake Things Up!

Hi friend,

Welcome to Stamping Flair. I’m a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia and today I’m participating in our monthly aWOW (Around the World on Wednesday) Blog Hop. It’s 8pm here and it could be the early hours of Wednesday morning or somewhere inbetween, where you are. Hence our blog hop name.

AWOW Blog Hop Header

Let’s Shake Things Up is our theme for this month’s hop. Angie Mackenzie does such a great job in coming up with our fun themes each month. So this month we are trying out something that’s new to us – be it technique, fun fold, colour palette. It was shaking the brain a bit I guess! So I decided to try a new technique to me – the Faux Linen Technique. I have seen this technique done on cards before but have not actually tried it.

Faux Linen Technique

Products Required

  • Cardstock or DSP (if using DSP, adhere it to cardstock the same size)
  • Tissue paper slightly larger than cardstock piece
  • Liquid glue
  • sponge (cut in 1/4)

Method

  • Completely scrunch up the tissue paper into a ball. It should have lots of creases. Ensure it doesn’t get torn. If you are stamping on it, do this prior to scrunching it up. Then open it out carefully.
  • Using the sponge, completely cover cardstock/DSP with glue.
  • Centre the tissue paper and lay it down on the cardstock with glue. Pat down but don’t smooth out as you want all the creases to show. Leave to dry 3-4 minutes.
  • Turn the cardstock over and glue down the excess tissue and miter the edges. If you have a lot of tissue overhanging, trim down and then glue.

It was time to make my first Christmas cards for the season and I just couldn’t resist the Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper. Slimline Cards seem to be all the rage now. So off I went to figure out what a Slimline Card was thinking I could add this to my ‘shake it up’ things I haven’t tried before. When I Googled and Pinterested I found several and realized they are pretty much what I have been calling DL cards. Slimline sounds so much better.

I’ve made mine a little shorter so that it fits in a regular DL envelope. Card base measures 20cm x 10cm folded in half.

I created the Faux Linen piece using Designer Series Paper which I attached to a piece of cardstock cut to the same size. Once I had adhered the tissue, I went over it with Misty Moonlight ink using a sponge dauber.

I love the cute background DSP which is so cheery and fun. The mountains with the trees was die cut from Shimmery White cardstock which I coloured using my Water Painters. Some houses fussy cut, create this cute scene. There is a whole sheet of sentiments from which I’ve cut out my sentiments and used on both of my cards today.

For my next card, I stamped the tissue paper with some snowflakes from the Nature’s Beauty stamp set, before crumpling it up to create my Faux Linen piece.

The snow has been sparkled with Shimmery Crystal effects.

I love the quaint houses in the Coming Home bundle. Coloured with Stampin’ Blends these offer simple and fun cards. You could also opt for fussy cutting the houses from one of the DSP sheets for those times you may not feel like colouring.

I hope you have enjoyed these cards I’ve shared today and shake things up in your craft room by giving something new a try. All the products I’ve used on my cards are listed at the end of this post.

You will not want to miss any of the inspiration that is being shared by all our blog hop participants. I know I can’t wait to see what each one has created. Next on our hop is the lovely Cazz Boylan. Click on the Next Blog button to see her beautiful creation. Enjoy the rest of your trip around the world!

aWow Blog Hop – cas(e) a Team Member

Hi,

Welcome to Stamping Flair in Melbourne, Australia and our July Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop. We are a team of 24 Stampin’ Up! demonstrators who are representative of the various Stampin’ Up! markets around the world.

AWOW Blog Hop Header

This is a very exciting hop as we get to CAS(E) -Copy and Selectively Edit or Copy and Share Everything – one of our team members. We have 2 special guests this month – Kylie and Bruno Bertucci and they too will be part of the CASEing. The names were drawn under strict Facebook Live conditions by Angie Mackenzie. I must say, it was very exciting to watch her draw from the 2 piles of names she had.

I’m so excited to be able to CASE Chris Smith today whose FB account I have been stalking! Chris creates amazing projects so I had much to choose from. I kept saying, oh I must CASE that and I must CASE that. I chose both a stamp set and a layout from one of Chris’ beautiful cards.

Front Flip Fancy Fold Card with Prized Peony bundle

Here is Chris’ project which I have CASEd. I love the monochromatic look of this card and the beautiful soft tones.  As I was writing this post, I realized I had unwittingly used the same ribbon Chris had on her card as well. You know what they say- great minds!

I created a Front Flip fancy fold card and used a very similar layout to the card Chris created. I stamped one of the peony stamps all over the Whisper White cardstock to create a beautiful background. The main peony has been coloured with a combination of Stampin’ Blends to achieve this shaded flower. You can find the measurements to create this card in my original post featuring this fold.

So in this challenge, Tania Tobin got to CASE me. Now to add a little bit of extra fun, I thought I’d CASE one of Tania’s cards and again I went for a beautiful and simple layout which she featured on this poppy card.

I die cut 4 rectangles and embossed them with the Tasteful Textiles embossing folder. The tulle ribbon was sponged with Balmy Blue to coordinate with my card.

I added a die cut sentiment from the Well Said dies to keep the card simple in design. A few sequins add some sparkle to this card. This fun layout is great to try with different patterned papers and colours.

You are currently with Rochelle Laird-Smith in Australia. I hope you have enjoyed my cards today and I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment. Make sure you follow the hop to see all the fun we have had in CASEing our fellow team members. I know have enjoyed this hop a lot.

Next on our hop is Cazz Boylan. Click the image below to find out who’s she’s CASEing and the beautiful project she’s created.

aWow Blog Hop – Inspiration from the New Annual Catalogue

Hi,

Welcome to my blog, Stamping Flair. I am a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator in Victoria, Australia. The Around the World on Wednesday (or aWOW) Blog Hop is made up of demonstrators representative of all the Stampin’ Up! markets around the world. This month our guest is the talented Cindy Schuster. So I hope you enjoy your journey with us this Wednesday.

AWOW Blog Hop Header

This is such an exciting time in the Stampin’ Up! family where we get to play with all our new products from the brand new Annual catalogue. Have you got a favourite product or maybe it’s several favourites? I have several suites and stamp sets that I love. However, I did have to make a choice and it happened to be one of the products in the suite that steered me towards the decision I made.

The Forever Greenery Suite. Aaaah, there’s green and then there’s Forever Greenery! Isn’t it beautiful? It’s got shades of green and blue. So what do you think might have just tipped me in it’s direction? Those Gold Laser Cut papers- yes, they are just beautiful. Apart from that, I am loving the smaller size. At 9¾” x 10″ it’s much easier to handle than the previous laser cut papers which were at 12″x12″.

I have incorporated all the products in this suite on my cards including the beautiful Forever Greenery embossing folders. These will fit in our soon-to-be-released Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. I’ve combined the gold laser cut elements with some stamped leaves. The stamp was inked up in Soft Sea Foam and then inked around the edges using a sponge dauber in Pretty Peacock to achieve the dual-colours.

On the next card I used the debossed side of the embossing folder and added some colour using a sponge dauber. Those Gold Hoops are so cute and add a lovely detail to projects. The back panel has been embossed with the Old World Paper embossing folder. This actually creases the cardstock – just like old paper! I love it.

This gorgeous wreath is the centrepiece of my third card. I’ve added some die cut elements including some dual-coloured stamped leaves of Old olive and Bermuda Bay, the same way I did on the previous card.

Thank you for visiting me today and I hope you come back soon. I hope you have been inspired by my cards and I would appreciate you leaving me a comment as I do love hearing from you.  All the products I have used are listed at the bottom of this post. Click on any of the images to be taken direct to my online store.

Next on our hop is the talented Cazz Boylan. Click on the Next Blog button to go through to her blog and follow the hop right through for lots of inspiration from our new catalogue. Get those Wish Lists out!
