AWOW Blog Hop – Monochrome Colour Buddies

Hi friends, Welcome to our March edition of the Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop. As this blog hop goes Live I will be in another part of the world – Brisbane getting ready for our Stampin’ Up! On Stage event. Today our theme is Monochrome Colour Buddies.

WHAT ARE COLOUR COLOUR BUDDIES?

Any 2 colours adjacent to each other on the Stampin’ Up! Colour Wheel are buddies. You can find this Colour Wheel in our Online Store. I’ve chosen Azure Afternoon and Balmy Blue to be colour buddies for my card today.

I’ve used the gorgeous Textured Notes bundle from the latest Online Exclusives release to create my card.

The Mini Corrugated Embossing Folder is my favourite product and dare I say, favourite embossing folder. By tearing up the edge it created even more gorgeous texture. I fussy cut the leaves, stamped in Azure Afternoon and popped it up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. Behind it the large leaf from the Thoughtful Wishes dies creates a tone on tone backdrop for my card.

A ready made sentiment was just perfect for this clean card and I embellished it with some Antique Pearls coloured with Azure Afternoon Stampin’ Blends.

Next on our hop is Cheryll Miller who I’ll be seeing in the next couple of days!

Monochromatic Highland Heather – More than Autumn Christmas Card

Well, it’s hard to believe but we have come to the final Monochromatic challenge with the Crafty Collaborations Insta Hop. Today, I’ve used the More than Autumn bundle to create a rather non-traditional Christmas card.

This card actually started with the doughnuts! I wasn’t sure how or where it was going but it just was fun to colour. One was coloured in Stampin’ Blends, adding a little bit of Fresh Freesia for some blending. On the other I used ink refills with a Blender pen to get a lighter shade. I love the varied shading that can be achieved by using different colouring mediums.

The next element I coloured in was the cup and I like to think that this is filled with egg nog – it’s a favourite in our home at Christmas.

Once I had all my Highland Heather elements, I needed a colour to coordinate with it. After trying a few combinations, I loved the look of the Naturally Gilded sheet which had the Copper design. It had just the right amount of design and white space and worked really well with my sketch.

I die cut some leaves from the Changing Leaves dies which is a favourite in my collection. It’s got a lovely variety of leaves and is great for filling-in around arrangements. The hearts were die cut from the Oxidized Copper paper which the leaves were also die cut from and I added them as an embellishment.

Let me know what you think of my non-traditional colour palette and if you are inspired to try this yourself? Shop the products for this card in my Online Store HERE.

Monochromatic Lost Lagoon – Frames & Flowers

Lost Lagoon is our colour in focus for the Crafty Collaborations Monochromatic Insta Hop this week. This is such a beautiful colour and can switch between a blue and a green for me depending on the design. Did you know that Lost Lagoon used to be an In-Color some years ago? It came into our core colour range last year and is such a great addition.

Although my card is filled with layers, it’s very quick to put together. I used the die cuts from the Frames & Flowers Specialty Designer Series Paper to create my focal point.

As the base of my floral arrangement, I added the large die cut leaf the Thoughtful Wishes dies. The embossed background really makes these die cuts stand out.

My card has been inspired by this sketch at Sunday Stamps challenge .

To complete my card, I added some of the Riverside Irregular Pearls and Lost Lagoon cording from the Otterly Adorable suite.

Monochromatic Lemon Lime Twist – Card Sketch

Welcome to this week’s Monochromatic challenge with the Crafty Collaborations team. Some of you would probably know that when Lemon Lime Twist was an In-Color a few years back, I had an avid dislike of the colour and was so glad when it’s 2 year tenure came to an end! And here’s the twist (pun intended): it seems that the saying “absence makes the heart grow fonder” holds some truth! This time around I have a bit of a fondness for this colour.

Going through my stamp sets, working out what I wanted to use for this colour, I pulled out the Chantilly Lace set. I purchased this set solely for the lace image it had and I wanted to feature it on this card. As I wasn’t sure how I was going to use it, I took a 1/4 sheet of White Cardstock and stamped 2 of the lace images in Lemon Lime Twist ink. Then I splattered some dots with the Dark Black Stampin’ Blend.

My next idea was to use the Perennial Postage die to cut out some squares. After cutting 4 out, I opted for 3 with this fun sketch and layered them on White and then Black Cardstock for dimension.

I chose a line art floral image from the Fully Flowering Ephera pack, adding fussy cut and die cut leaves to create an arrangement around it.

I layered the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Saying Something Mix & Match Ephemera Pack onto Crumb Cake Cardstock. Having tried Basic Black as a matte layer, I felt the card, as a whole, was too stark and harsh for my style. By adding the Crumb Cake layer and some Linen Thread, it softened the look.

This is a really quick card to put together with the pre-designed pieces in our ephemera packs making it extra quick. Order the products to make this card in my Online Store or contact me to place your order.

Will you be trying out this sketch? I hope you enjoy your weekend and have some crafty time.

Monochromatic Calypso Coral – Trusty Tools

The Crafty Collaborations Monochromatic challenge featured colour this week is Calypso Coral. An old favourite and part of our Subtles range, Calypso Coral is a good all-rounder colour that blends really well with other colours whether it be same tones or some brighter colours for fun looks. I surprised myself by ending up with the Trusty Tools stamp set in front of me for this particular colour.

Why? you may ask. My go to for Calypso Coral would probably have been flowers but in these challenges I try to use different stamp sets and I as far as I could remember, Trusty Tools had yet to be used. So, we were painting the town, Calypso Coral!

I went for a clean look with lots of white space, choosing patterns and texture to add depth to my card.

The stamp set is a two-step set however I chose to colour my paint brush in Stampin’ Blends, even adding some paint stains down the brush.

Industrial Trinkets (the masculine bling!) completes this rather quick card which is perfect for the handyman in your life.
