Monochromatic Gorgeous Grape – Card with Paper Scraps
For this week’s Crafty Collaborations Monochromatic Insta Hop featuring Gorgeous Grape, I’m using up my paper scraps to create an interesting background for my card.
How many times do we get left with bits and pieces of scrap paper that are ‘too good to throw away’ but not big enough to cover a card front? You know how us crafters like to hoard right? Today’s sketch is a fun and effective way to use those up.
I cut up 1 cm strips of Perennial Lavender Designer Series Paper and adhered them to White Cardstock at different angles. Initially, I wanted all the DSP strips to be perfectly straight but as I started laying them out, they shifted slightly and I liked this look.
This took away the need for precise placement and perfect spacing. No more stressing about getting everything aligned—just let the pieces fall into place naturally. Not only does this add a playful, casual vibe to the design, but it also makes the process so much faster! Perfect for when you need a quick card but still want it to look fun and creative.
I used the dies from the Cheerful Daisies dies and die cut the top and bottom layer of the daisy from Basic White Cardstock and blended Gorgeou Grape ink onto the die cuts. This is a method I prefer to die cutting from coloured Cardstock as it creates variation in the colouring. The centre layer of the daisy was die cut from the same sheet of Designer Series Paper as the strips.
The centre of the flower was die cut from Basic Black Cardstock and heat embossed in Black 3 times to get a high gloss finish adding depth and shine that really draws the eye. To complement the bold center, I added some die cut white leaves. I left the centers of the leaves intact, giving them a fuller look that helped them stand out beautifully against the background.
A few splatters in Black, Tinsel Gems and a baby bow from twine add the finishing touches to this card.
