Peace on Earth – Christmas Card with Winter Scenes
For the final card in my Winter Scenes, Card Creations Series, I went with a monochromatic colour palette, choosing cool blues to create this wintry scene.

The scenic image was coloured with Stampin’ Blends and layered onto several DSP and Cardstock layers to create fullness.

To create this card, I started by adding an embossed background and mixing in stamping and DSP with different designs. Layering these elements added texture and depth, beginning with the largest layer at the base and gradually working upward. This layering technique draws the eye inward, so even though the stamped image is small, it still becomes the focal point of the card.

Tips for Making a Smaller Image a Focal Point
- Frame It Up – Use stitched or shaped dies (rectangles, circles, ovals) to frame your image. A stitched edge, like on this card, adds polish and draws attention to the stamped piece.
- Pop It with Dimension – Add Stampin’ Dimensionals or Foam Adhesive Sheets behind the image panel. Lifting it off the background creates shadows and instantly makes it stand out.
- Layer Strategically – Place bold or darker mats behind the image panel. Contrasting colours or patterns (like the Secret Sea striped DSP here) create a spotlight effect.
- Keep Surrounding Elements Neutral – Use softer tones, textures, or subtle patterns around your focal image so it doesn’t compete for attention.
- Balance with Embellishments – Add simple accents (ribbon, gems, or enamel dots) to lead the eye toward the focal image without overpowering it.
- Highlight with Sentiments – Position the sentiment close to the image. A well-placed banner or label directs attention to the focal point while balancing the layout.
