Mermaid Kisses with a Fun Watercolour Background

It’s been a while folks. Sickness got me and I’m still not doing the best. Hope this winter weather doesn’t get you down with colds and nasties.

Cassidy celebrated her 16th birthday last week as well. It’s been lovely celebrating this special young lady who brings so much joy to me. She is filled with so much love and kindness and has a generous and forgiving spirit. Cassidy got a fun makeover with highlights in her hair for the first time so that was very exciting and she had some friends over to celebrate and enjoyed a fun time last weekend. Here she is all dressed up and getting a bit of a photoshoot done.

Cassidy 16th birthday photoshoot

The background for this card was created by Cassidy. One day I was creating a water colour wash and she thought it looked like fun. So she asked if she could make one too. Of course I said she could. She picked her colours and created this lovely background on Shimmery White cardstock. Isn’t it beautiful? Then she said ‘Mum, you can use it on one of your cards if you like’. So I liked and here is the card I made using it.

Watercolour Wash on Shimmery White cardstock in Ocean hues

The water colour wash was created with Highland Heather, Blackberry Bliss and Coastal Cabana. This time Cassidy used Clear stamp blocks to ink up the colour. You could also use this technique with ink refills. Then then using an aqua painter she made the colours runny and easy to apply so no harsh lines appeared.

I thought this mermaid was ideal for this background with the water colour background and it’s lovely colours. Instead of just leaving the panel of cardstock as it was, I cut it in half and die cut the edges and added an embossed Coastal Cabana panel behind it. The Scattered Sequins Embossing Folder looks like bubbles in water – perfect for my mermaid.

To colour her in, I combined several Stampin’ Blends and really worked all the colours in together. I started with Light Highland Heather and then blended the darker colour. When it came to adding Lovely Lipstick, after colouring it in, I then went over it with Highland Heather and Flirty Flamingo to blend the colours in. A brush of Wink of Stella over her skirt adds the mermaid shimmer to it.

Mermaid Wishes Stamp set by Stampin' Up! create a handmade little girl card

I stamped the sentiment directly onto the cardstock as I wanted to keep it fairly simple and let the background and mermaid stand out. Every little girl would love some Mermaid kisses for their birthday, I’m sure.

The Stamparatus is very useful when stamping on Shimmery White cardstock or Watercolour paper. As it is more porous, I find that the ink doesn’t take straight away and may leave you with a half-stamped sentiment. Using the Stamparatus gives you the option of re-stamping again and again.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this Cassidy-Rochelle creation and definitely give this watercolour wash a whirl. It’s a lot of fun.

A Classic Car for the Ladies

The Classic Garage suite – something for every classic car lover, mechanic, motor head in the family. It’s ideal to create those great masculine cards. I’ve created many projects using this suite and find it has some great sentiments as well. However, when I get a stamp set, I try to picture it in a completely different setting or colour scheme to what is mainly being promoted. This makes me think more creatively and work in different colour schemes, giving me more options with stamp sets.

This classic car spoke ‘pink’ to me. Ok, I know it’s my favourite colour but I also chose it because it was so different to the strong colours which I had been previously working with for this set. I thought I really should create this card especially for the ladies.

I have used the Classic Garage Designer Series Paper as my background. The great part of double sided paper is that it has exactly that – 2 sides. The colour palette of this Designer Series Paper is Basic Black, Basic Gray, Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Real Red, Tranquil Tide, Very Vanilla, Whisper White.  This Basic Gray muted background would work well with many colours and I loved how it looked with my Flirty Flamingo car.

I layered 2 ribbons together to create an accent on this card. The Glittered Organdy Black ribbon has just that enough sparkle for this card for the lady who loves her cars.  The many dies make it easy to create the background with metallic foil.

The sentiment was stamped and punched with the pretty label punch. I created this look by using a shorter piece of cardstock so it squared the top and bottom.  Just like us ladies who love our accessories, the metal key is the perfect accessory to complete the look.

Engagement card with the Forever Lovely suite

This card was made for an order from a work friend who requested a card for her daughter’s engagement. I have been in a bit of a slump lately. The All My Love Suite was just perfect to create this engagement card to inspire me and give me a starting point with colours. As it was an Engagement card I wanted to create a larger card so I folded a sheet of Blushing Bride cardstock in half to create the A5 card base.

Engagement card using Forever Lovely stamp set by Stampin' Up!,

I die cut the edgelit on Whisper White cardstock which still left it attached to the cardstock but gave those nice cut outs from the flowers. I stamped the leaves in Soft Sea Foam on top of this piece to give a fuller look.  On another piece of Whisper White cardstock the flowers and leaves were stamped. Then this panel of cardstock was adhered behind the die cut panel so the colours showed through. This immediately added the colour.

The extra flower on top was inked in Blushing Bride first. Then using a sponge dauber I added some Lovely Lipstick ink around the edges to give the two-tone effect. For the leaves I used this same method with Soft Sea Foam and Shaded Spruce ink on Soft Sea Foam cardstock. There are matching dies to cut out the flower and leaves and this made it easy to create and add more dimension to that die cut panel.

Colour enamel dots with Stampin' Blends, Forever Lovely suite, Congratulation, Love

The sentiment is from the Flourishing Phrases stamp set. In this set you get 2 sets of stamps and the sentiment fit so many occasions. I especially like the font used which is used in this set. The Epoxy Heart Droplets come clear and you get 72 hearts in 3 different sizes. I coloured these in with the Dark Lovely Lipstick Stampin’ Blend. I did 3 coats of colour, leaving a bit of drying time between each. The Lovely Lipstick hearts were the perfect finishing touch for my card.

My friend loved the card and that made me so happy because I love sharing my passion of card making and seeing the joy it brings the recipient.

Lovely Lattice Thank You Card

I’ve used the free Sale-A-Bration Lovely Lattice stamp set to create this Thank you card. I really like the framed look that can be achieved with the use of the Rectangle Stitched Framelit dies. This is such a useful tool and I find myself reaching out to use it all the time. The stitched edging gives a lovely finish to projects.

All that’s involved with this card is just basic colouring in with Stampin’ Blends. Here’s a list of the colours I’ve used.

If you haven’t given Stampin’ Blends a try, I encourage you to definitely try a couple of colours to start with. You will find it such an easy colouring system to use. With 2 shades – light and dark for each colour in the set, it is not complicated and blending is very easy. I also suggest having a Colour Lifter on hand for those slips we all tend to have. I may have mistaken a stem for a flower….That Colour Lifter is like magic. I turned red into green just like that!

The ribbon I have used was part of the Sale-A-Bration offering but due to the popularity of it, Stampin’ Up! is out of stock. Just goes to show that these products are in fact really good value and great quality. You can substitute Daffodil Delight Double Stitched Ribbon instead.

SIP #189 Gingham Easter Card

I’m participating for the first time in the Stamp, Ink, Paper challenge. I couldn’t go past the Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper for this card featuring this cute squirrel from the Fable Friends stamp set. For me, this is the cutest stamp set in the Occasions Catalogue.

I have made my card just a little bit smaller to work in with the Rectangle Stitched Framelits dies. The card base is 10.5cm x 13.8cm whereas usually it would be 10.5cm x 14.8cm.

The squirrel has been stamped in Tuxedo Black ink and coloured with Stampin’ Blends. The grass was added with Soft Sea Foam ink.

I picked up on the daisy the squirrel was holding and decided to pull out the old favourite Daisy punch. In our previous Annual Catalogue, this bundle was a firm favourite but I’ve not used it much lately. So, what better way to use it than to celebrate a bright and cheerful Easter.

Easter Card with Gingham and Squirrel

I stamped 3 daisies on Daffodil Delight cardstock. Then I added some highlights with the Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blend. The petals were curled using a bone folder to add extra dimension. Offset the daisies when assembling them for a fuller look.

Daisy Delight coloured with Stampin Blends Alcohol Markers

As I had run out of large Clear Faceted Gems, I was forced to use a Gold one in the centre. This blended in too much with the flower and didn’t stand out at all. So I added more depth to it by colouring it in with the Dark Calypso Coral Stampin’ Blend. This matched well with the daisy in the stamp.

The Easter sentiment has been heat embossed with White embossing powder.

Ok, it’s not a bunny but it’s cute and I think it still works. Make sure you check out all the checks and stripes on the Stamps, Ink, Paper blog for more inspiration.
