New at SU Blog Hop – Handcrafted Hearts

Hello and welcome to the New at SU Blog Hop for January. Our first hop this year is getting us ready for February as we prepare to share love in a hand-made way. You will find inspiration for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries and love themed occasions.

I’ve chosen the Joyful Squares Bundle from the January – April Mini Catalogue to feature on my card along with the rather unique Square Snippets Designer Series Paper. As I browsed the catalogue, both these products caught my eye as they were a little bit unusual. The Square Snippets Designer Series Paper is a new style product and the bundle looked like a whole lot of fun – and I’ve really enjoyed playing with it.

I really had no idea where I was going with this when I began this card and it all started with that one fussy cut flower! Then came that gorgeous ornate frame. I heat embossed this in white and blended Pool Party, Misty Moonlight and a touch of Blueberry Bushel to create the emboss resist effect. At this point, I still was not sure of my colour palette.

The little heart duo in the stamp set had to be used as our theme was about hearts and I stamped them off in Darling Duckling on the banner and layered it onto a matte banner in the same colour. The clip was stamped in Pretty Peacock onto a floral piece of the DSP. The scalloped edge die cut from the Season of Elegance DSP adds a nice finish to the banner. This is one of my favourite dies in the set.

Some leaves stamped off in Pretty Peacock on Pool Party and some additional die cut leaves from the Designer Series Paper surround the fussy cut flower. I added edging around the fussy cut image with the coordinating Stampin’ Blend to make it stand out better.

Finally, I cut apart my stamp (you could mask it too 😀) to stamp my sentiment. I just chose to do this because I feel I will get more use out of it like this. Baker’s Twine and Sparkle Dots complete this card.
