New at SU Blog Hop – Simple to Stepped Up with Neutral Noel Suite

Welcome to our September New at SU Blog Hop. This month our team are sharing ways that you can take a project and step it up. For my cards I’m using the Neutral Noel Suite.

This is a mega suite in the September-December catalogue with 2 stamp and die bundles, Specialty Designer Series Paper and other coordinating products. So there’s lots of ways to keep your projects simple with just stamping or take it up a notch with lots of die cutting and additional bits and pieces.

Simple

For my simple card, I kept the focus on stamping, with a row of houses as the main image. A little bit of ink blending adds a soft background. I’ve also added some of the Specialty Designer Series Paper for instant colour.

Keeping it simple doesn’t mean void of layers in my book, so in keeping with my style, there’s lots of layers. An embossed panel adds texture. I always recommend Embossing Folders for beginner stampers because these give such a beautiful finish to a project and always give a WOW look.

Simple can be striking

• Add Designer Series Paper
  DSP is an easy way to bring colour, pattern and texture to your card, doing much of the design work for you.
• Layer it up
  A couple of well-chosen layers can make a big difference. Try contrasting colours for more impact, or tone-on-tone layers for a softer look.
• Add texture
  An embossed panel is a lovely way to add texture without adding more elements to your design. It can be subtle, but still gives the card another dimension.
• Add a little embellishment
  Ribbon and embellishments can be the finishing touch. You don’t need lots — just a small amount of texture or shine can bring the whole design together.

Step-it-Up

For my Stepped- Up version I started by stepping-up the layers! The houses were stamped 3 times – once in Soft Sea Foam, Pecan Pie and Early Espresso. Each of these were die cut. The Soft Sea Foam layer was my base. Then I fussy cut the other house and layered them on top – a bit of paper piecing.

Behind, a layer of trees, blended with Old Olive and Pretty Peacock form another layer.

On my desk, I found this Old Olive piece of Cardstock with a beautiful border die cut with the Bordered in Beauty Dies. It was the perfect size for my layered houses to be mounted on.

The sentiment was die cut with the included dies. I then layered it onto Gold Foil and fussy cut around it.

I stamped some foliage in Mossy Meadow then drew lines inbetween with the Garden Green Watercolor Pencil to make it look fuller. Finally, I splattered all the leaves with Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Blends The pine cones were coloured with Cajun Craze and Pecan Pie Watercolor Pencils which gave them some texture and added depth. A white gel pen sprinked some snow on the ends.

A bow and some gold embellishments add the finishing touch for this stepped up card.
