AWOW Blog Hop – Autumn in Melbourne

Hello and welcome to the May edition of the Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop!

This year marks a special milestone as we celebrate 5 wonderful years of inspiring creativity together. To honour this occasion, each month we’re CASEing (Copy and Selectively Edit) one of our incredibly talented team members—and this month, we have the pleasure of CASEing the beautiful work of Cheryll Miller from Sense of Whimsy.

Alongside this, our theme for the month is “Seasons”. I’ve chosen to showcase the rich tones and textures of Autumn in Melbourne through my card. It’s a season full of contrast and beauty.

There were so many cards that I wanted to CASE as Cheryll is an amazing artist and I particularly like her collage work. I chose to CASE the layout of the sweet card below. Click on the image to get all the details of how Cheryll created her card.

COFFEE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

Melbourne is widely regarded as the Coffee Capital of the World. We have numerous cafes – some in little alleyways or cozy corners – you will find somewhere that you can get a good latte, espresso, cappuccino – whatever you fancy. We are known for our eclectic cafe scene.

For my card today, I decided to combine a bit of coffee (and cake) with warm autumn tones to bring a part of Melbourne to our hop.

I started with the coffee (of course!) colouring the image with Stampin’ Blends. Some warm tones of Cajun Craze and Pecan Pie mixed with some greens create my autumnal colour palette. I added the cake – my favourite – lemon, with a sprinkling of cinnamon Stampin’ Blend splatters on top.

For the sketch, I added a panel of Cajun Craze Cardstock embossed with the Damask Design Embossing Folder and on the bottom added a piece of Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper. This was matte on to another piece of Designer Series Paper. which provided some beautiful, subtle texture in the background.

Several leaves were die cut from the Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper. By doing this, the leaves already had texture on them. I added a little bit of blending at the base of the longer ones to deepen the shade but really, not much was needed. To hold the arrangement together, two large leaves were die cut from Granny Apple Green Cardstock using the Gallery Blooms Dies. I blended Mossy Meadow, Pumpkin Pie, Pecan Pie and Cajun Craze to create a rich autumn look.

The bold sentiment from the Greetings for All Ephemera Pack adds a striking contrast, paying homage to Melbourne’s signature love for black in fashion. A delicate sprinkle of neutral sequins brings the perfect finishing touch to this autumn-inspired card.
