New at SU Blog Hop – Fontastic Christmas

Today I’m sharing a card which I’ve created for our New at SU Blog Hop. Our theme this month is Fontastic and our design team are inspiring you with creative ways to use fonts from our product range.

Fonts do more than just convey a message. They can set the mood, evoke emotions and add personality to a design. Whether it’s a bold, playful greeting or an elegant script, the right font can make all the difference!

I’ve created a Christmas card and presented fonts in a few ways. It all started with the stamped ‘love & joy’ background. I love creating my own backgrounds and for this, I stamped the sentiment in Crumb Cake and the ferns in Crisp Cantaloupe, stamped off.

Next, I started building up the layers, beginning with a piece of woodgrain Designer Series Paper that I crumpled and embossed with the Textured Tree Ring 3D Embossing Folder. This adds wonderful texture and gives the background more depth. Over the top, I layered some Yuletide Carols Designer Series Paper featuring printed lyrics. This was another opportunity to incorporate fonts into my design.

To complete the focal point, I added stamped and die-cut pine cones and foliage, creating a lovely cluster of natural elements. A touch of Hydrangea Hue brings an unexpected pop of colour, while the hot foiling adds another layer of detail and a little extra shine.

Finally, I die cut the word ‘JOY’ using the Mini Alphabet Dies, layering Hydrangea Hue and Early Espresso Cardstock to create a shadow effect. This gives the letters extra depth and helps them stand out against the background.

I love how all the different elements come together on this card, from the textured woodgrain and music score to the mix of fonts, layered foliage and unexpected pop of colour. It’s a reminder that fonts can be used in so many ways, not just for sentiments, but as a feature in the overall design.

I hope this has inspired you to look at the fonts in your craft room a little differently and experiment with ways to make them a feature of your next project.
