AWOW Blog Hop – Playing with Sand

Our theme for this month’s Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop is Playing with Sand. Here in Melbourne, June marks the beginning of winter, yet the moment I saw this theme, my mind immediately wandered to summer and the beach.

Awow Blog Hop, Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop Header

The Around the World on Wednesday team is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators who represent our different markets. On the second Wednesday of each month we share inspiration around a fun theme.

I had the inspiration to create a pink deck chair – in my usual style of take a masculine set such as the Relaxed Waterside Bundle and doing something a little bit more feminine! I started by stamping it in Barely Blush ink on Barely Blush Cardstock. Using the tree/bush stamp from the Sparkling Celebrations, May Paper Pumpkin Kit, I added some distressing over the chair in Barely Blush and Craft Ink. This little stamp is great for adding a soft, mottled look over an image.

Once I did this, the definition of the outline image had been lost, so, I got a bit brave and stamped the outline image again, in second generation Strawberry Slush ink. It was easy enough to line up and it added the extra colour I needed.

After I had created my chair, my brain decided not to work and came to a standstill! I sat on my project overnight while having several stamps and dies sitting on my desk. A fresh start in the morning gave me fresh ideas. I decided on the umbrella and gumboots from the Under the Sun Mix & Match Ephemera Pack. My card went from being beachy to garden vibes which was more in keeping with our wintry season.

I added some torn Two-Tone Crumb Cake Cardstock, resembling sand, as part of my card sketch. On the centre DSP panel, I stamped the sand image from the Rolling Waves stamp set, in Golden Glow ink. This gives a beautiful texture and worked in with our sand theme.

To complete the garden scene, I added flowers from the Cute Bugs dies. The flower centres were coloured in Golden Glow using a Blender Pen. Thee little flowers were just perfect to peek out between the umbrella and chair. Placing the sentiment vertically provided a nice balance against the cluster of images in the centre.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you’ve enjoyed my walk through of my creation. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think of this card.

Next on our hop is Kelly Taranto and I’m looking forward to seeing how she has interpreted this theme. Click on the link below to see Kelly’s project.
