New at SU Blog Hop – Two-Tone Summer

Hello and welcome to Stamping Flair here in Melbourne. Today I’m participating in the New at SU Blog Hop with a theme of Two-Tone Summer. If you are wondering how to use your Two-Tone Cardstock – you are in the right place. Our team is brimming with ideas to have you tearing, sanding, embossing and really getting into those sheets that you have stashed.

Stampin’ Up! two-tone cardstock comes in 12″x12″ sheets and is sold in packs of 12. You can purchase in individual colours or there are a range of mixed packs which coordinate with suites. As they are 12″x12″ and lighter weight, they make great scrapbook pages. The mixed packs are great for getting you a nice variety so you can enjoy having a selection to pick from to try out all these fun techniques you will see today.

For my colour palette I have been inspired by this month’s Stampin’ Up! Creative Challenge which is to use Cajun Craze, Daffodil Delight, Timid Tiger, Strawberry Slush and Old Olive. At first glance, when I saw these colours they didn’t pop out as summer – probably because there was no blue in it! However, after selecting my products I was able to use these to come up with a summer card.

I’m using the Summer Happiness Bundle for the focal elements. On the back, I die cut a border with the Botanical Expressions Dies from Strawberry Slush Cardstock. Both these products are from our July Online Exclusive releases which will be available for purchase on 1st July.

The border leaf die is a wider width and I cut it down to suit my card. It cuts with a border at the top and bottom. I’ve trimmed off the top border and sanded the leaves which gave it a bit of a snowy look. Ideas for another card!

The Daffodil Delight Two-Tone Cardstock has been torn and I’ve used the lighter side of the Cardstock. Then I blended Timid Tiger ink on the top so it flowed well into the watercoloured die cut below.

On the hexagon from the Paradie Garden Dies, I blended Daffodil Delight and Old Olive ink. All the focal elements were coloured in Stampin’ Blends and added to the top. There is even Cajun Craze on the camera and the flower bringing all the #creativechallengesu colours onto my card.

Tips for creating this card

  • Two-Tone Cardstock gives you options
Each sheet has a darker side and a lighter side, so choose the shade that best suits your project. For this card, I used the lighter side of each sheet to create a softer summer feel.
  • Add texture by sanding
Lightly sand areas of your cardstock to reveal the white core underneath. It’s a simple technique that adds depth, softness and an aged, textured look.
  • Be gentle with intricate die cuts
When sanding delicate pieces, such as these leafy die cuts, use a light touch and support the cardstock with your fingers to avoid tearing.
  • Create beautiful torn edges
Tear the cardstock towards you with the side you want to feature facing up. This exposes the white core and gives you that lovely distressed border.
  • Don’t overlook scraps
Smaller leftover pieces of Two-Tone Cardstock are perfect for die cutting smaller elements. I die cut the small leaves from the lighter side of the Old Olive Two-Tone.

Thank you for stopping by and checking out my project. I hope it has inspired you to get crafting with Two-Tone Cardstock. Make sure you check out all the other projects from our team for more fabulous ideas.
