New at SU Blog Hop – Memory Keeping with the Mixed Media Florals Suite

New at SU 2024 Header

Welcome to the April edition of the New at SU Blog Hop! This month, we’re celebrating the heartfelt theme of Making Memories Last. Memory keeping is a meaningful and creative part of papercrafting—whether you’re scrapbooking, creating albums, decorating photo frames, or designing interactive flip books, there’s something so special about preserving your treasured moments in a beautiful, handmade way. It’s not just about the photos; it’s about telling your story and capturing joy one page at a time.

I’m using some products from the Mixed Media Florals Suite to create a two-page spread. The pages are sized at 6″ x 8″ and are designed to fit inside our Basic Black 6″ x 8″ album in which you can add the Variety Pack of 6″ x 8″ Photo Pocket Pages.

As I began designing this layout, my goal was to create a cohesive spread that flowed beautifully from one page to the next, while still allowing each side to have its own unique charm. I wanted the pages to feel like they belonged together, but not be mirror images—more like an extension from one page to the other.

To establish that sense of cohesion, I started by adding panels of the Boho Blue Designer Series Paper in varying sizes to each Boho Blue base. This subtle tone-on-tone layering added texture and interest without overwhelming the design. Next, I introduced a unifying element across the top of both pages by layering a strip of the Mixed Media Florals Designer Series Paper onto Shy Shamrock Cardstock. This detail not only visually connects the two pages, but also brings in a pop of fresh colour.

For the photo placement, I chose different matte sizes to add balance and variety: the left page features 3″ x 2″ photo mattes, while the right side includes 3″ x 4″ mattes. Each of these is layered onto Mossy Meadow Cardstock, which adds a rich contrast and frames the photos beautifully, making them stand out against the background.

To embellish the top right corner of the layout, I added a trio of die-cut banners for a fun and layered detail. Two of these banners were cut directly from the Mixed Media Florals Designer Series Paper, tying in the pattern used across the top strip, while the third was cut from Strawberry Slush Cardstock for a bold pop of colour. This is one of our new (returning) In-Colors. The text was stamped on top in Poppy Parade ink, drawing in the colour from the floral strip at the top. There’s even space, under the banners, for writing some memories.

Over on the left-hand page, I brought in a coordinating detail by adding half of an oval die-cut from the Unbounded Love Dies, cut from Strawberry Slush and softly blended with Poppy Parade ink. These small, intentional touches help pull both pages together—creating a cohesive look while still allowing for creative variation.

As a feature, I added a die cut leaf cluster from Shy Shamrock, blending it with Granny Apple Green ink. To bring in a bit of texture and interest, I flicked some subtle ink splatters using the Dark Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Blend. Of course, I just had to add a flower in there. I only used part of the floral image so it didn’t overwhelm the design.

A sentiment from the Birthday Treats Ephemera Pack was perfect to add in the corner. Some new Strawberry Slush Pearls complete my layout, ready to be filled with photos.

A supply list is below for the products I have used in this project. I hope you try out some of the fun ideas that you see through our blog hop today to preserve your beautiful memories.

    1. Thank you so much Heather. Actually, I’m not that much of a scrapbooker. I create pages for projects and some home decor pieces and I enjoy doing them. x
