Hello and welcome to our masculine themed New at SU Blog Hop for October. At Stampin’ Up! there is no shortage of stamp sets to feature on projects for the guys – from sports to nature, wildlife, coastal and much more. I couldn’t go past the Peaceful Cabin bundle for my creation today.

Timing was perfect for this blog hop as it was my partner’s birthday yesterday. So it was great that I could make a masculine card for this blog hop while having someone in mind while I made it.
Adrian is very much an outdoors guy, lives on the water but loves a bit of camping. This cabin made a great base for his card. I have never attempted the Northern Lights technique and thought it would be fun to try and create it on this card as a background for the cabin.

There’s a lot of colours and messy hands involved but it creates a fun effect. I started by stamping the trees in Night of Navy then sponging around the trees with Granny Apple Green and Just Jade. Then using my sponge daubers I added the rest of the colours in strong brush like strokes to create the markings across the sky.

Using a Water Painter I added highlights with Craft Ink.
I stamped the cabin in Early Espresso on Soft Suede Cardstock. I stamped another one on White Cardstock, fussy cut and layered it on top. The window was stamped in Bumblebee, fussy cut and adhered on top. Some Embossing Paste was added to resemble snow.
I used the Stamparatus to stamp the ‘Happy’directly onto the blended background. This allowed me to add Versamark a couple of times to get a crisper image. ‘Birthday’ was heat embossed on Night of Navy and cut out as a contrast against all the colours.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you have enjoyed the Northern Lights technique. I will be sharing a video soon showing you how to create this background so make sure you subscribe to my blog to receive notification of all the updates.
